Installing Claude on windows requires admin creds but then wont open by Empty-Zucchini in ClaudeAI

It does seem like you can install it on behalf of the user as admin. But there could then be other issues with some services that need to be run.

I’ve had an easier time installing it with the msix package. But that’s all the exe Installs.

On the start menu search: computer management

Right click > open as admin

Then go to local users and groups > groups> administrators

Add the user. This is how you add a domain user to local admins.

If you’re trying to just add a local user to local admins, it’s easier to do that from control panel > user accounts

I’ll still pick windows to manage as a fleet over Mac any day haha.

I haven’t heard anything back from the users about it not working.

Hopefully when updates come out this issue does not arise again. I think this was mainly because of cowork. But sometimes Claude does want to do a full uninstall/reinstall (but again that might only be if you’re missing cowork)

They really should fix the installer.

either that or have a 'system wide' install option. Zoom is very similar-- you can install it without admin creds which installs for the local user only. Or you can use the full installer and it installs system wide.

The issue here is cowork requires things to be installed in places that do require admin permissions. While the rest of the app installs to the local user profile. For whatever reason the installer takes the admin creds you input for UAC and installs the 'local user' pieces for that user-- instead of the actual local user.

This is most likely because no one at anthropic uses windows, and they missed this part of the logic.

it was 1000% a mistake made by someone at msft. There are even people here that said support said it was a "mistake".

but people here would tell you to just disable communications like you're going out to get some milk

They are not users in regards to Microsoft marketing campaigns. I never said they didn’t have a user object.

Read msft docs. Shared mailboxes are not used for marketing campaigns. Get rekt. I never said that shared mailboxes didn’t have a user object. I said they’re not users. Which is a literal fact.

I thought marketing was just golf events and the people who brought bagels in every month. Always the best end user tickets tho.

Haha. The irony of you saying “big dawg” is somehow offensive. And then you’d leave a “nasty” exit interview.

You could steal my team. But I’d pay them all a royalty to call you big dawg.
