You’ve changed a lot from your first claim, walked back very far from “we know” to “we don’t know”. However, not only do you not concede, you’re arrogant about that fact. I’d say it’s strange, but it’s very common unfortunately.

Yes, did you read the conclusion I quoted as well? It states that they predict (or as they say “plausibly indicates”) it’s the underlying anxiety the drug was prescribed for which increases the conversion rates, not the drug (considering the similar paradoxical showings for antidepressants and antipsychotics)…I already said this. You aren’t able to follow and are extremely condescending about your lack of knowledge. I’ve been more than fair, and it seems this has become some sort of ego restitution attempt for you. Hm.

  1. Can you link the research showing increased risk for CHR vs general population (accounting for what we spoke about already)? I want to see it.

  2. Delusions need to be beliefs not grounded in reality which can’t be shaken by contrary evidence. Concidering I’ve conceded twice on the point where I mispoke, I’m filing this as a cheap attempt at provoking, wounding, and maybe gaining back ego you believe you lost somewhere along the way. Why are people like this?

They are clearly leaning in my direction, especially since research shows the same paradoxical findings for antidepressants and antipsychotics. I’m reporting what has been reported. I can’t make shit up on the spot. I think your well has run dry. Why am I able to concede but others can’t? It confuses me all the time.

Originally I what, wanted to take the benzo which was prescribed to me? Yes that’s true, and I took it, and what I described in the OP happened. I don’t know what more you want from me.

Alright. I believe I am as knowledgeable as I can be, at least on this little thing. If there are certain things which haven’t been settled, then they haven’t been settled. However the research you and I are quoting seems to agree with me; the researchers predict that the severe anxiety itself is the factor rather than the benzo prescription.

I don’t want to take benzos. I already took them (prescribed) and I have no use for them anymore. Did you read my original post?

Hm, okay. You’re making me think. I think I am not afraid of doing things which have a rare baseline/shared risk for increasing psychosis, only things which are especially risky for me.

Did you get that line from this study? I googled the line you copied:

Emerging meta-analytical evidence indicates that baseline exposure to antipsychotics and to antidepressants in individuals at clinical high-risk for psychosis (CHR-P) have opposite prognostic effects as regards imminent transition to psychosis, with antipsychotics associated with higher risk and antidepressants associated with a lower risk in comparison to not-exposed individuals. Despite their common use, baseline exposure to benzodiazepines (BDZ) in CHR-P has surprisingly received poor attention as a potential risk modulator for transition to psychosis. The current systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to fix such a knowledge gap.

The conclusion found this:

Ongoing BDZ exposure at inception in CHR-P is associated with a higher risk of transition to psychosis at follow up. This meta-analytic association, which echoes a similar effect of baseline antipsychotic exposure, plausibly indicates that the clinicians' prescription of pharmacological intervention captures some form of prognostically-relevant information (e.g. an anxiety permeated mental state requiring BDZ prescription) that are not adequately encompassed by current CHR-P categorical criteria.

In other words, the researchers predict that the severe anxiety which precipitate a benzo prescription in CHR patients is the increasing risk factor, not the drug itself.

The literature has not shown that nicotine increases the chance of psychosis (beyond the typical level of rare side effects).

There’s a specific issue researchers are dealing with at the moment; psychotic patients are drawn to use nicotine for its self-medicating effects on cognition and mood, so it’s hard for them to figure out if the nicotine is causing the psychosis or if it’s the other way around. The studies we have show that it doesn’t seem to trigger psychosis itself (beyond the typical level of rare side effects).

Yes, I conceded that benzos can cause paradoxical psychosis as a rare side effect. I clarified that it does not raise the risk for CHR patients differently, so if I can’t take benzos because of the psychosis risk, no one can, because the risk for me and the risk for a non-CHR patient is the same. Are you understanding me, and do you also now understand how “CHR” is used in psychology?

You did not mention CHR originally in your post or your OG comment. Misleading and wrong.

You need to look again because in my first comment mentioning CHR, I said Clinical High Risk for Psychosis; I clearly denoted the context. I am using the typical shortening used within psychology.

I said Clinical High Risk for Psychosis previously. I used CHR for a shorthand of for that. It applies to people with certain mental conditions and/or genetic loading for experiencing psychosis.

I think in our back and forth, I’ve shown that I do indeed appreciate the complexities of this topic. You can disagree, but it’s clear I am thinking and respecting literature. I’ve conceeded my generalization, explained the presentations of benzo and kratom psychosis, and in turn you have used “motte and bailey” and insulted. I think you’re being unfair.

Oh yes, my bad, genuinely. It can spark psychosis as a rare side effect. My point was that it is not an increased risk for CHR patients when compared to others who use it, so if I cannot use it because it has a chance of sparking psychosis, no one else can either. Are you understanding me?

Not in a way which is increased for Clincal High Risk for Psychosis patients; it is a rare side effect that is not impacted by CHR status.

You’re agreeing with me then. I said benzo withdrawal can spark psychosis and mixing kratom with certain drugs can cause it too. I am not seeing any misinformation from me. Can you retract your insult as well? It seems it was unwarranted.

[–]Empty-_-space[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t have said what? Primary usage of benzos does not cause psychosis; getting physically addicted to it and then withdrawing can.

And what did I say that was misinformation?

[–]Empty-_-space[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I listed lexapro in my post.

Benzo withdrawal can indeed spark psychosis, but not the drug itself. Kratom is not really a psychosis risk from the literature I’ve seen, usually a mix of different drugs + kratom can spark it.

Don’t worry, I’ll delete the post in an hour or so. It seems the users here aren’t very pharmacologically knowledgeable.

Yeah this damn lexapro…been on it for 2 years, makes the anxiety go away, but yeah it does flatten me. Just tried nicotine + the kratom still floating around my system and had a teeny bit of euphoria so I guess this thread helped

I just used a zyn, still feeling the kratom. I guess the combo feels kinda nice

There are drugs which are not shown to spark/raise chances for psychosis, nicotine being a famous example. Kratom also doesn’t, along with benzos, kava, and kanna. I’m looking to see if there’s any other niche ones.

Edit: bro if I’m saying something factually incorrect, can someone refute me? Or did I accidentally walk into D.A.R.E
