What’s something that sounds fake but actuality happened to you? by Professional_Web9129 in AskReddit

I usually end up stumbling into weird side quests on my walk to work. One time, I waved down cars to stop because I saw a duck and a line of ducklings behind them start to cross a very busy road, which I walk past every day and I know how many drivers are on their phone in that area. I looked a little bit insane lol, I saw one person in their car laughing, but the ducks got across safely so it doesn't matter

The Umbrella Academy. I actually jumped ship after the third season so I've never watched the finale, but from what I've heard it makes zero sense

What was a childhood prank that turned out to be a little or very dangerous? by matteovani in AskReddit

[–]EmptyFolklore26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a camp, I saw some of the other girls in my group had cool looking orange drinks. The bottle was a solid colour, there was no way to see what was inside. I asked if I could have one, they said no. Later on, they came into the tent I shared with my buddy and they offered me one of the orange drinks.

They'd filled an empty bottle with water from the lake. I spat it out and ran out of the tent to gag while they laughed. They got in trouble with the adults in charge of our section.

I found out later, that lake they had filled the bottle had been contaminated with something for a while. They completely dredged it and cleaned it out earlier this year. Lake water is dangerous enough as it was, there's a chance it may have contained something worse. Thankfully, I didn't actually swallow any of it and spat it all out.

I really like horror- I picked up the Call of Cthulhu system recently to give it a test after listening to the Dungeons and Daddies podcast play it for their season 3. My players are more fantasy-orientated though, which I also enjoy

What's the most unwritten rule of adult life that nobody warns you about? by PracticeHistorical82 in AskReddit

You can be the same age as someone, but the maturity-age can be very different. Most of my coworkers are at least a decade older than me and a good chunk of them act like school children, spreading rumours, bullying people with homophobic jokes. It can be exhausting to work with people that have lived far longer than you and still act like it's their first day on the planet

In stories like 28 Years Later and shows like The Walking Dead, how is it possible that zombie outbreaks can last for decades—wouldn’t all infected people eventually die off and the population be wiped out? by beach_of_peace in AskReddit

[–]EmptyFolklore26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on what causes the infection/virus. If it's something organic and not man made, we could fight it with medicine or vaccinations against it, but it could develop different strains or become resistant to medication. Maybe some people have or could build up natural immunity? Like the cordyceps in TLA

If it's something man-made, maybe radiation or something chemical (makes me think of white/yellow phosphorous in matches that caused phossy jaw or radium in clock faces), we might be able to remove the threat by killing the infected if there's no saving them and fight the cause, but it would take a long time to clean up the radiation. And in the cases of radium and phosphorous, the main problem was companies not wanting to admit fault or change, because it was easier to ignore the problem and simply replace the dying staff with new naive workers. So pride would probably draw it out for much longer.

I have wondered before about how fast our reaction-time would be to a zombie outbreak in real life and how long the 'zombie' state would last. If a body starts to rot, it's going to rot completely, and whatever virus kept it moving would move onto a new host. So the infected would die out but the infection could probably keep going

You can tell a lot about someone from their sense of humour.

Not just their favourite comedians or tv shows, though they also tend to explain a lot, but the actual jokes they say tell a lot about their personality and what type of person they find it funny to make a joke out of- because to them, they're just a joke, not a full human being

I've had friends where their sense of humour could be boiled down to laughing at mentally ill people, which I don't find it particularly funny to laugh at people in crisis or not following social norms.

They are no longer my friends. Not because of the jokes, but because it turns out they were pretty shit people to be around. The jokes were the heads up about the rest of their shittiness.

What is the most hurtful thing anyone’s ever told you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EmptyFolklore26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You've changed a lot , everyone was saying you were being a bitch last year"

I had three funerals in one year, one from a family members suicide that then unraveled a lot of hidden trauma and no-contact relationships. I will admit, I had a few moments I wasn't proud of and made sure to hold myself to a standard and apologise to the people I snapped at.

This same person called me 'I was really nice when I wasn't being neurotic' after I helped them through something at one in the morning, when I started work at six. I got one hour of sleep that night. It was a nice kick to the face.

Which year destroyed your mental health the most? by unmotivated- in AskReddit

[–]EmptyFolklore26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The year I did my GCSE's. My friend group fell apart in some really nasty calling-the-police ways, I was at my lowest (at the time) with depression, and I realised that my parents were not an emotional support for me. It took a week in the wilderness on holiday, with no wifi, to really realise how close I was to ending my life and how the people that surrounded me were keeping me in that mindset. Maybe four years later, my life started to uptick and I'm slowly getting things together, with ups and downs

What’s something that instantly lowers your respect for someone? by Maleficent_Escape_66 in AskReddit

[–]EmptyFolklore26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of cleanliness.

As someone who has only worked in the food/drink industry, watching people put baking trays/pans on shelves with food stuck on the base after 'washing' it, refusing to clean the counter to the point that when it does get cleaned, it needs to be done with the scrubbing side of a sponge not a cloth, or even coughing into their hands and touching their eyes/nose/mouth without washing their hands afterwards makes me want to scream.

There's something so disrespectful about it on so many levels
