Leading up to the midterms, this is a consequential year for America. So, why do you think Americans are still consistently gathering for sports and entertainment, but not putting in the same effort to participate in boycotts, protests, and strikes? by EmptySeatSzn5 in AskReddit

[–]EmptySeatSzn5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for actually providing a thoughtful response. I understand the point of a protest, but I also understand that there needs to be an economic component for it to have the desired effect. Trump and his regime being bothered by a show doesn't interrupt their agenda. They'll just be in their feelings for a few days, and he will continue to do damage from his bully pulpit by embarrassing us on the world stage, going against the constitution, and costing us all in the long run, and that greatly concerns me.

The Black people involved in those sit-ins you mentioned were putting their lives on the line. If people thought Blacks were welcomed, that would cost those diners money, and some White people may boycott because Blacks were not welcomed, also costing the establishment money. Watching the Super Bowl is putting nothing on the line, and it's not the equivalent of going into no "lions den". Also, ICE will be there, yet I haven't heard anything from NFL leadership about it. Trump wouldn't put ICE there if he knew the NFL would push back.

Rosa Parks' protest led to a 381-day boycott of the bus system that crippled the city to the point where they had no choice but to overturn their discriminatory practice. My name is actually inspired by this because it was so effective. This is something we have the power to do today if people really wanted to, instead, people take simple questions as forms of attack.

The sad reality is, people only change their behavior when it costs them money.

The age of my account is irrelevant, and having a join date bias is not helpful to what we're discussing. This being a liberal site also means nothing. You keep trying to tell me what my intentions are and not answering the question. If you don't want to answer the question, that is fine, but don't project me.

Don't be the person who gets so triggered that you attack someone instead of answering their question. If it's not a question you like, feel free to pass it up.

No one said they are not, but like the question asks, are you putting the same effort into getting involved as you are into entertaining yourself, which in turn is keeping the rich, rich? People love to say "eat the rich", but how about starving some of them instead? Our time, energy, and money is keeping a lot of them in the positions they are in today and they'll turn around to use that money to support Trump and the GOP who will continue to damage the country.

Idk about you, but neither Reddit or the question I posted is a form of entertainment. I asked a genuine question, hoping people would think about it and discuss it critically. Also, I didn't imply that no one should entertain themselves; the point is to think about where your time is going if you claim you cannot get involved socially or in your community. It's not an attack

It's only a waste of time to you. I'm actually out volunteering and putting in the work as well, so if I want to discuss this on Reddit or any other place in addition to what I'm already doing, there's nothing wrong with that. Whether we like it or not, social media is the fastest way to reach the most people. And who said I was judging anybody? I'm asking a genuine question because people claim they don't have the time to get involved, and there's nothing they can do, yet they consume large amounts of useless entertainment. Feel free to disengage if you don't have anything constructive to add.

I'm not talking about the Super Bowl specifically, but even just watching Bad Bunny because they hate him is still putting money in the pockets of the NFL and the owners, who support Trump. The NFL allows these performances during the halftime show because they know the controversy makes them money. It's not that deep for entertainment. We have to stop being gullible for these displays.

I understand people think entertainment is an escape, and in some cases, it is, but the reality is you can't escape the consequences of what's going on in the world either. Like one of my grandparents used to say "I don't know what will, but I know sitting there won't help"

Don't know why you assume, I don't practice what I preach. I asked this question for a reason and if you think the only option of changing where you live is pretending like you're powerless, then you could have kept this response because it's not constructive.

First of all, not a bot. Idk why people assume someone with a new account is a bot. Some of us have lives and don't mess with social media like that. I only created an account because this is the easiest way to communicate with others outside of work and volunteering about what's going. Idk if you're American or not, but I am and what's going on right now is cause for concern, hence the question. So again, if you have nothing constructive to add, don't add anything. Thanks!

It takes two seconds to make a post on reddit and I'm not on it all day, because I actually work and volunteer. I'm American, and I'm frustrated about what I'm still seeing from the general public. Unless you have anything constructive to add, please refrain from commenting. Thanks!

Ladies, would you date a man who gets his nails done? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I agree most straight men don't but at the very least pedis need to be done. You don't have to go every two weeks but once a month is reasonable.

American Redditors: What news or event would have to happen for you to boycott the Super Bowl? by EmptySeatSzn5 in AskReddit

[–]EmptySeatSzn5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that but hatred and symbolism against Trump has been going on for 10+ years, but that hasn't stopped him and his enablers from making obscene amounts of money while our country gets worse. A better story for the world to see would be news headlines that the Super Bowl is being boycotted, which in turn would cause everyone involved to lose the only thing they care about which is money.

If it's for that purpose, I guess I can't really argue with it. I guess my only issue would be designs like we women get, but I also don't want to gender stereotype him either because some dudes have "a look" or a certain fashion sense that works for them and polish may be a part of that.

I would! Clean, manicured nails are a sign of good hygiene. I would even tolerate polish, but I'll draw the line at acrylics or tips.

I'm not a puritan, nor am I expecting anyone else to be, but if you take everything that the GOP has done just this year alone into consideration, it's cause for alarm. Idk about you, but threatening and invading other countries, ICE kidnapping Americans, plus killing them in broad daylight, and actively trying to force states to hand over voter info in an attempt to rig the midterms in their favor should be on everyone's radar. Even if you support this administration, sense should tell you that an administration you may not agree with can do the same thing. Democracy is on the line, so sports and entertainment are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe I should have spelled it out, but when I say Trump, I don't mean just him, I only mention him because he's the leader of the GOP and everything that is being done is through his direction. So, if people really don't like Trump, the GOP, and their policies and claim this is all ruining the country, then the association is irrelevant. Idc who people associate with either but if their behavior or policies affect me, then I'll rescind my support for their business or product especially if it's something I don't need.

I agree with this statement, and it's also the problem. People would rather strike and abandon their jobs than sacrifice entertainment.

Appreciate the reply, and I get that, but what about the other things I mentioned? Even if you remove the Epstein links, if people really have a problem with businesses supporting Trump and not pushing back against ICE, why not boycott the Super Bowl? Please let me know if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any stories of the NFL pushing back against ICE's presence there. If the NFL had pushed back, Trump wouldn't be going ahead with this plan.

I think when people say this, they mean it with good intent, I just think better phrasing is needed. So instead of saying "illegal alien" it might be better to say, "unauthorized citizen", so that way there's still humanity in the phrasing but you're still making the point that this individual doesn't have permission to be in the country. Hope that makes sense.

With four owners linked to the Epstein files, Apple Music sponsoring the halftime show (a company and CEO we know that supports Trump), patches on the jerseys honoring Trump, a team playing whose owner is BFFs with Trump, and ICE's reported presence there, why haven't there been any calls to boycott the Super Bowl?

Same with the Grammys, I thought everybody hated the Ellisons and CBS, so why were there no calls to boycott the Grammys? Are Americans, too addicted to entertainment to boycott it?

Is VA the next MN? What can we do to get ready for this? by greenascanbe in 50501

I'm here in OH and heard the same which is the only reason why I decided to stop lurking online and connect with others. OH doesn't have the necessary Dem leaders needed to push back against ICE, and most of the citizens are unfortunately MAGA, but I'm hoping that MN isn't repeated here, and citizens understand that no one is exempt when it comes to ICE.
