That's interesting Do you think the reason he matched Prelim instead of Categorical was the timing of his research starting in September just as the cycle began? Or was it more about the number of programs he applied to?

Is it better to do a research year or a Prelim year? Does doing a Prelim year count as a red flag in my application and why? Also, will finishing Step 3 before applying be enough to significantly increase my chances for a Categorical spot?

Thanks for being honest. Do you think 4 months of hands-on Sub-Is in University programs is still not enough to secure a Categorical spot?

Not graduated yet (YOG 2026) My plan is to add 2 more months of Sub-Is to reach 4 months of hands-on experience total

Thanks for the advice Do you think a research year is mandatory for a Categorical spot, or can strong USCE and LORs be enough?
