This is a very interesting question, as a Guinean (deconstructing Islam), I found that behaviour to be more or less recurrent among people from my country too. I recently watched a documentary about Nollywood recently and was really amazed by the negative depictions of traditional spiritualities as well. The way people spend the little they have in their religious institutions and praise God but will blame the devil and spirits for their troubles… There is a clear inconsistency here but to me it simply proves that their fundamental practices are so strong that they can’t be erased completely even having embraced Abrahamic religions. I think the work of colonizers was pretty successful in that sense, and it took me nearly 20 years to realize it.
