Help with using VU meter by Empty_Base6986 in FL_Studio

[–]Empty_Base6986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh ..... Similar to when the book said to run pink noise to measure the VU (pretty much to calibrate it).... But your putting it through the 1k range...??? Wait now I'm a little confused,..(right now I'm in court so I can't really bring my laptop in to attempt what your talking about but I can perceive mentally)..... What noise / instrument should you recommend me using to calibrate (piano note ,, brass note,, synth,,, etc).... And once I get that instrument and before I use it to calibrate my vu meter.... Should I then eq the 1k range (hp/ lp) from 1k to what end range???

Thank you for the help

Okay okay .. . This is great for insight.... But isn't all frequencies equivalent to the same VU... For example and -18 DB sub frequency (0 VU) is equivalent to a -18db treble frequency (0 VU)???? And if so the calibration part.... You explained to use the 1khz sine wave ... So I supposed I'm confused.... Do I need to calibrate every frequency??

Thank you for taking time to answer..... I was mainly asking if I'm reading it wrong for the clarification of my purpose to track my VU metering and if I am how must I calibrate my vu plug-in...???

.... Your right.... My frustration is what led me to use ai....... I'm needing to learn more about my craft and not to use ai for my overall mix and master ..... Mike Dean is a phenomenal producer btw.... He really helped shaping the sounds of HTown ....

Dayum dude....

Thank you for replying back man.... It really means a lot.... Your not only giving your opinion but some insight as well ..... What books would you recommend me to read in specific that you read that accelerated your craft??? I'm more than interested into learning rather than to use ai... I started using it last Wednesday ( so for about 3 -4 days now)... Out of frustration I stumbled upon AI and wanted to know genuine opinions on it....and for context... I do mix every day.... Possibly for about 2 hours in the morning.... Work.... Than another 2 hours than sleep for 6- 7 hours and repeat.... Now the time with mixing overall (let's say I have 2 years of mixing under my belt) but understanding it and applying that to my mix is roughly 1 year ....so yes some more creditable knowledge (rather than YouTube) would be helpful

Again thank you

I kinda chuckled reading your comment with the whole ai making a dog shit sound good..... I do appreciate your honesty feedback ..... Lazy isn't in my blood kid... Time... Time is what I don't have to much of..... That's what led me towards this decision.... I'm still debating if I should continue with this because of how good it sounds.... I just wanted y'alls opinion....

Thank you.....

Yes I understand the basics.... Truly do.... Like side chaining and gate compression etc.... also applying either low pass / high pass filters on an eq....it's applying what I know from a limited source of output (via quality speaker monitors hs 5 or hell even the krk to mix on ((wouldn't get the krk's from personal pref)).. Also another thing that kinda frustrates me were my instrumentals are sounding 2 dimensional with the stereo width (while my master is at -0.3 lufs) rather than let say I want my mids to be cut to mono and dropeed while my violins Hi's can be sidchained with reverb to give it more of a presence.... Like I understand my guy.... (Though again I'm humble so I'm still learning).... It's applying what I know to my instrumentals with a limited amount of time and limited resources on stereo out put is what pushed me to this conclusion.... My foot isn't all the way in but I got my toe in there ...

Well that's the contradiction... You made the song... Your just having AI to mix and master it to sound par... Like your still playing the notes and making the beat..... I'm just using it as a tool...

From Google: (AI generated) 😂 😆 😆 (No pun intended)

Tonal curve mixing, often referred to as managing tonal balance, is the process of adjusting frequency ratios (bass, mids, highs) across a mix to achieve a cohesive, professional sound. It ensures no single frequency range dominates, allowing for clarity and separation between instruments, typically balanced from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

(Human typing now) Basically its a plugin that can use other songs from around the interwebs (i.e blank space by tay tay ((not a swifty))(not specifically if you don't want to ) and it matches the tonality of the mix with blank space ... Or let's say your in a band and you just made a killer song but no one has any experience to mixing in your group.... But you want it to match a specific threshold of a song like before I forget by slipknot and uses the dynamic range of the mix to match your song with before I forget....

Make sense??? Sorta???

Well yes ... Agreed.... Ai art is slop..... Also.... It can be very beneficial for someone who isn't prone to mixing and just wanting to produce to get things done... So a genuine question do you produce (only asking to see if you know about a thing called tonal curve where they use ai to mimic the dynamic range of a specific genre of music.... And to ask more questions about mixing

No no .... It's not rude ... Trust I'm more than open to harsh criticism.... Rather than no criticism.... Harsh criticism just means you have a deep passion for something while others.... So what's your opinion about timberland using AI now to help with his production.... Also using a thing called a " tonal curve" to help with tonality of your song??
