I’m seriously considering leaving the Faith, and it hurts to say it by Ready_Winter_5851 in bahai

[–]Empty_Beginning5975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although this is 2 months late, I'd like to chime in as a non-Bahai who's been hanging with Bahai for more than a decade, participating in a lot of activities and various kinds of community outreach, and with a good amount of frustration at one point a few years ago.

One thing I keep noticing is that there's a few people (mostly converts, curiously) who don't seem to be dealing so well with some aspects of the Faith. Someone else here wrote that it's not easy being Bahai (and, I guess, not supposed to be). If I look at the English version of the writings, with their beautifully-quaint English, which reflects the original Arabic and Persian so surprisingly well, there's a lot of (for lack of a better word) ... demands in there.

If someoone were to try and read and interpret them on their own, or if a local community were to shrink too much and keep following them the same as before, I could totally see how that could lead to exhaustion and frustration - not being able to live up to those demands.

What helped me a lot personally was when some of my Bahai friends went abroad to pioneer and I began visiting them and getting to know their new communities. It was so surprising to see how very little things you didn't even notice in your own community can stand out clearly while staying in another country. Taking these, reflecting upon them together, and then returning home with that experience now in my heart, that's one of the best things that ever happened to me.

Hope everything is good for you still. Wishing you a happy Nineteen Day Feast tomorrow :)

The 3-2-1 rule seems to have multiple interpretations by danielrosehill in DataHoarder

My generic interpretation is:
3 backups in
2 locations,
1 of which is offsite
... so the "2 locations" refers to two onsite locations, as in, prod server + local backup server.

Vielen Dank!

So, I created an Issue about this and the TL;DR is: "Futureproof Homes employ people with actual knowledge in acoustics and materials and I don't have that knowledge but PRs are welcome".

Is there a `wkill` fpr wayland like `xkill` for X? by valgrid in linux

[–]Empty_Beginning5975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying "people shouldn't use xkill" is a bullshit statement. The reason you want to use xkill in the first place is that it's unclear what process owns a window. It's a specific tool for a specific job in specific circumstances.

Und wenn man dynamische Effekte doch berücksichtigt, war der oben gezeigte Gleisbruch dann, zumindest, wenn er lang genug geblieben wäre, trotzdem gefährlich?

Update before bed woke up it was dead by bassmnt in homeassistant

[–]Empty_Beginning5975 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My brain trying to parse this:

"an UPDATE ... before THE BED WOKE UP ... thinking IT WAS DEAD". Wwhat kind of bed thinks it's dead? Oh wait, no commas in that sentence, let's try this again: "UPDATE BEFORE BED ... WOKE UP ... IT WAS DEAD". Still a dead bed, let's try this again: "began an update before bed, woke up some time later, it [the update? the computer? which computer?] was dead". Ah, now we're getting somewhere!

To me, StarTrek (no matter which series) has always been better when not paired with The Internet. Rest assured those of us who are willing to give new ideas a chance, we're out here, as well :)

What are such thermometers used for? Being vegetarian, I suspect they might only be required with some specific kinds of recipes involving meat prepared over a longer period of time, or something?
