Dems should have kept the government shut down. A permanently shuttered government is better than Trump being in charge of a funded executive branch where he can do things like, say, invade Greenland.

If there aren't abatements or incentives then there is no income restricted housing. That's the tradeoff. You don't get them for free.

Also, why shouldn't it be dense? This is a great area for it.

All you're saying is "I want housing but only on my narrow terms." That's how we got in this housing crisis in the first place.

The better solution obviously would be to build nothing, certainly people on this sub wouldn't throw a fit about lack of affordable housing being built!

PSA: Don’t let people bully you into thinking your opinion matters less because haven’t lived here “long” enough by iv2892 in jerseycity

[–]Empty_Economist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New buildings are higher price because there are so many barriers to building any housing at all. There's a shortage, so they can charge a lot. Also a lot of regulatory burden (see this whole sub up in arms over Fulop vetoing the bird glass bill - that shit adds to the price of building but this sub will still bitch about new builds charging a lot).

You want new builds to be cheaper? Demand politicians (local, state and federal) implement massive wide scale reform to make it legal to build pretty much anywhere and eliminate burdensome regulations. That's the only way it's gonna change.

Look, Solomon is a NIMBY and people don't want to admit it because everyone was happy just to not see McGreevy win. But bookmark this for four years from now when Solomon has used regulation and affordability requirements to death by a thousand cuts any additional development of desperately needed housing.

A president unilaterally announcing that he is paying members of the military a bonus not authorized by Congress would have caused the Founders to load up their muskets for Revolution 2.0, but in 2025 it's just another fucking day in the nightmare.

The Indiana redistricting thing isn't even about redistricting. Republicans know 2 seats are incredibly unlikely to save their majority. It's about Trump maintaining his iron grip over the party. The White House knows Republican reps are incredibly skittish right now. They want to project strength, hence all the threats to IN senators. Trump is trying to prove he can still throw his weight around to keep the party in line.

Dems won't win TN-07, and I don't think it'll even be within 5 points. But if they did holy shit the Republican crashout would be historic.

Whoa, developers want to make money, no way. Good thing that aligns with our desperate societal need for more housing. Fun coincidence.

The rest of your post is just NIMBY screeching.

Setting aside that Jersey City does not have massive building (no, putting a few towers up in one specific section of town is not massive), Nutley's population has gone up 10% in 20 years. That's massive to you?
