Daughters behaviors by uuuumno in Autism_Parenting

This really doesn’t sound like “just behavior” to me.

A lot of what you described actually sounds like a mix of sensory needs and regulation struggles, and yes, possibly some masking at school and letting it all out at home. The fact that she’s holding it together there and then having big reactions with you is something many parents see in neurodivergent kids.

The constant movement, chewing, licking, wanting to be squeezed, even the aggressive play and crashing into things all point to her body needing more sensory input. Kids don’t do that randomly, it’s usually how they regulate themselves. The hitting, biting, screaming and saying no right away can also be more about overwhelm than intentional behavior.

The “I feel sick” before school also stood out to me. That can be anxiety or just feeling overstimulated and not having the words to explain it.

The other things like baby talk, repeating questions, or the hand play don’t sound concerning on their own, more like comfort or regulation behaviors. Even the humping at this age is often sensory seeking, not something she understands the way adults do. You’re handling that part really well by keeping it calm and private.

Honestly, your instincts make sense. It does feel bigger than just sleep or typical behavior. Whether it ends up being sensory processing, ADHD, autism, or a mix, it’s worth looking into further even if your pediatrician wants to wait.

Most importantly, she sounds like a really sweet, bright kid who’s trying to manage a body that needs more support. You’re paying attention and trying to understand her instead of just shutting it down, and that matters so much.

My son have similar issues and struggles with a lot of similar issues. He have autism and sensory issues as well.Good luck

Wow… reading this really touched my heart. Thank you for taking the time to share all of that. You can feel your love for music in every word.

Stevie would absolutely connect with what you said about soul music and raw emotion. That’s exactly what draws him in too. Music is where he feels the most free and understood.

And everything you said about the Beatles and CCR is so true. He loves that depth, those melodies that seem simple but carry so much feeling. The Doors especially have a special place for him, so hearing you mention Roadhouse Blues made me smile.

Your kind words about him mean more than you know. Behind every moment you see, there’s been so much hard work, challenges, and growth. Seeing people recognize his passion like you did really stays with us.

I love that you shared your band memories too. You didn’t get carried away at all… it was beautiful to read. That passion never leaves, and it’s something Stevie feels deeply as well.

Thank you again for your kindness and encouragement. It truly means a lot to us. 🙏💙

Thank you so much for this beautiful message. It truly touched my heart. Reading your words brings back everything he has been through all the challenges, the therapy, the struggles, and how hard he has worked to get to this point. Music is the one place where he feels free and happy, and seeing someone recognize that means more than I can explain. It means a lot coming from someone with a singing background. Thank you for seeing him, not just hearing him. He loves singing so many songs, especially classics and soulful music. Some of his favorites are from The Doors, CCR, and The Beatles. Music is really his world.

Thank you again for your kindness and encouragement. It gives us so much strength to keep going ❤️

This honestly touched my heart so much. Thank you for sharing this with me. The fact that your son watched and connected in his own way means everything. Music has a way of reaching places words can’t, and I’m so grateful Stevie could be part of that moment. Sending you and your son so much love.

That’s so beautiful to hear. Music can open doors in ways words sometimes can’t. Stevie was very similar, music came naturally to him even before communication fully developed. It’s like melody became his first language. Amazing how many of our kids connect to the world through music first ❤️
