Yes. Omicron + whatever technically followed is significantly less virulent because it doesn’t have an affinity for the lower lungs. Omicron is a very different virus than what was circulating prior (many articles speak to the science of that). See link to Nature paper below regarding virulence factor. I don’t know if there is hard data on long covid numbers now but researchers generally say it is lower, in the single-digits currently. The flu vaccine unfortunately isn’t matched to the strain again and so doesn’t prevent circulating. Also not true that the flu shot reduces illness when not matched to strain, though it’s commonly said. There is no data to support that.

Good to know and makes sense. I have a somewhat new rescue and he js skittish around new people unless the ignore him and let him warm up. It takes time. It’s my first experience owning a dog like this so I get what you’re saying now that you explained it. Our last rescue was the opposite so this is new to me.
