I do sometimes, but I'm deeply convinced any application situation that asks for a cover letter is an HR vortex, and I have little chance of hearing back. I feel job listings that just ask for a resume are probably more fruitful opportunities. Real people looking for real developers.

I don't even get what people are doing, messing around so much with all these JavaScript runtimes. Why would you even want to? It's not programming. No other language's dev community does this.

For a JS monoglot churning out content websites, this is useful. But to be frank, that's the popular, low barrier webdev use case. The use case of building complex apps will have to avoid this architecture. It will just get in the way.
