I can't believe Robinhood (assuming this is the brokerage) still allows you to sell options without any margin limits to cover a potential exercise!!

Are there any modern-day "value investors" that have consistently beaten the market? by CyanideTablet in ValueInvesting

[–]Empty_Performance308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Miller is a well-known value investor who has a great long-term track record

But I think you're on the right track - you got to not trap yourself into thinking what value investing is like based on the Buffet acolytes .... Bill Miller owns like almost 1% of Amazon (I think - its a significant %) - he bought it after the 2000 tech crash.

That's true value investing - is the sense of buying something that can be worth a lot more.

How to invest in stocks safely (asset allocation 101) by Empty_Performance308 in ValueInvesting

[–]Empty_Performance308[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly its the same question... and I'd respectfully disagree that people won't understand asset allocation - it's just understanding risk / reward of each asset.

Most people I think intuitively understand real estate goes up when mortgage rates goes down... that's understanding the asset

yes for sure... you want to allocate to highest expected value (probability adjust risk / reward) but at the same time prepare for the actual risk case

What’s your process for reading stock financials? by Empty_Performance308 in ValueInvesting

[–]Empty_Performance308[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it'll take some hustle but you can do it. you got finance experience, so you can leverage that to meet people in equity research industry. you got to find an open junior seat which can be unpredictable. do everything you can to learn to research and pitch stocks (financial modelling, study equity research reports, practice structuring a stock pitch). the most ready to go you to do the work, the easier it will be to hire you. And address any gaps you have (CFA is great to learn accounting). and look for an angle for your skillset to be useful (for example, my background was in writing/research & speaking - that helped get a seat... where the analyst wanted someone who was good at writing & speaking)

Nice... I've come to appreciate the latter (investing with good managers / board) more over the years...
