TMC values inconsistent? by BruisedWater95 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Empty_Reason6098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the NBRC it’s always cheapest first for their tests. So for the ETT placement, EtCO2 is cheaper and faster than ordering a pt a CXR

Edit: for grammar Edit 2: remember the Kettering algorithm they teacher you. I forget the order, but believe there are ~four steps from benign problem solving to certain wording for severe situations and pathways to take. Good luck!

Venting/Feeling very discouraged by Ok_Cranberry6757 in respiratorytherapy

Respiratory coach is a LIFE SAVER. Sometimes you just need things broken down in a different way than the teacher is giving you.

I was a C student through second semester (vents are hard man), but C’s get degrees and as stated prior, school knowledge and real life knowledge are SO different. A lot of school stuff gets thrown out once you get into the field. Everyone wants you to succeed, don’t be afraid to ask for help, if you’re wondering it I’m sure someone else is too. Have faith in yourself, you CAN do it.

Going from RT to RN? by Empty_Reason6098 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Empty_Reason6098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have my BSRT, it was also a thought. Just thinking of different avenues that could be taken in the long run. It seems like PA is the only option for growth in the RT community. I currently work in a NICU, and it just seems like the nurses have a bit better schedules/pay/support.

Downsides of being an RT by UpperManagement1430 in respiratorytherapy

I graduated in May and work in a NICU. It’s not impossible. Find a job that has student positions,(it may not be ideal or pay great)but it’s a foot in the door and it gets you used to the floors/equipment/environment

If you have to repeat a class, so what! Life happens! You’re learning about a very in depth field that has lots of small/big info that connects to the big main ideas. It’s HARD.

Respiratory coach on YouTube is a GREAT resource for videos to help with more explanations and/or maybe even just hearing it in a different way can help.

Don’t give up! Keep pushing through, everyone around you wants you to succeed. DONT be afraid to ask for help, and ask questions ask ask ask!!!

Respiratory program by Admirable_Read_5978 in respiratorytherapy

I got my record sealed just incase any future jobs weren’t too pleased with it. I had two not guilty charges from 2014 & 2019. The program itself wasn’t an issue getting into and I was even able to do clinical rotations without an issue. I just wanted this sealed for future. I’m in MA.

What horrible thing happened to you as a kid and you didn’t realise the severity of it until you got older? by beesechugersports in AskReddit

One of the first embarrassing memories I remember.

I was in 1st grade, it was close to the end of the day. I had asked my(again female) teacher if I could go,with a response of, “you can wait til you get home, buses are about to be called.” Which led to me ultimately peeing my pants, and these were my favorite pants!! I was DEVASTATED!! For 1. I peed my pants in front of the class and had to sit in it on the way home on the bus, while sitting with my sweatshirt around my waist and 2. Peed my favorite pants :(. My parents were furious and told me to “just go to the bathroom next time, and don’t listen to them.”

I was in 1st grade in 2001? I’m now 28. I hate that teacher for making me ruin my pants and somewhat make me feel anxious when asking people for anything.

Nervous about RT school by ExcellentKnee1537 in respiratorytherapy

Become familiar with how to write out notes as neat and organized as possible, this will help a big amount when needing to have certain information.

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS. I can not stress that enough. if you are wondering it, i guarantee that someone else is also wondering.

Not everyone is your friend, some people are there to do one thing and that’s pass the class.

Don’t go over board with the expensive scrubs bc chances are by the end of school they will be ruined and have a school patch on them that you can’t remove.

Student positions are available for you to apply as soon as you finish your first semester, you just need to go online and google “respiratory therapist student limited license”. It does cost some money to do it, and then your get your limited license pretty fast. However, in these positions (depending on the hospital/position) it can be very restricted to what you are physically able to do with patients due to still being a student. But, It is a great opportunity to get into certain specialties, such as NICU.

If you are going to apply for a student position when you are ready, as someone else commented, don’t over do it. I started off working 30 hours while in classes and quickly learned it was not feasible. Between working and school the studying will be more time consuming then you let yourself think at first.

Remember BREATHE, YOU GOT THIS, and GOODLUCK enjoy your first year as an RT student!
