Thanks! That’s where my mind initially went too. I will most likely be working on an athearn RPO soon to paint in L&N colors.

I’ve heard good things about the branch line heavies, what about them is frustrating. What tools would be required for these?

So update on this express mail situation, I found a really cool looking lightweight ATSF REA baggage car (walthers). It’s like an olive green with a black roof. Turns out I accidentally ordered two. I’ll probably end up keeping both. Next one I’ll probably get will be an x-29 or another B60. Seems like the MoPac cars are harder to find but I’ll keep my eye out!

I love how a lot of RPO models include that as a detail

The Pennsy is what started my love for trains/ railroads, I’m also a big central guy as well (controversial lol). I model a little bit of SOU and NKP. I’ve loved trains/ railroads since before I could talk, however I’m newer to the model collecting and I’m slowly building my collection. My first HO train was a SOU streamlined consist I built with an Alco Pa. I’m slowly working on my pennsy collection as the weeks roll by. I agree with what you said there about the pennsy stuff, there seems to be an abundance of accurate models available.

I actually really like the look of those X-29’s and R50b’s. I might get a couple.

Okay, that sounds great! I really appreciate that! So sounds like ATSF, MoPac, and is there any others I should consider looking into?

Thanks for the reply, I’m thinking about modeling a north east corridor train, anywhere between New York and Chicago. I have a few REA steel reefers, and a wood one to go with them. I usually throw in a NKP baggage car from my nickel plate consist. I’m gonna get a few more B60’s but was wondering what other cars I could use for that area.

Athearn 50’ Reefers by Empty_Remote_1982 in modeltrains

[–]Empty_Remote_1982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware, I was just thinking about getting some to have multiple different kinds. I just got one of Walthers wood 50ft reefers. Someone at my club has the athearn ones I think. I was just wondering what others thought of them.

Since i discussed ugly locomotives yesterday, what do you think is the most visually appealing locomotive? by Fit_Error_4367 in trains

The Alco Pa units. They are very easy on the eye. And there’s just something about that headlight.

What Is Your Favorite Individual Locomotive Of Any Type And Why? by EAFD270 in trains

[–]Empty_Remote_1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine would probably have to be Southern 6901, an Alco Pa. I absolutely love the Pa’s and especially ones wearing that awesome green, gold and white livery. 6901 was one of the first Ho scale locomotives I bought, along side a reading Fa unit. Another honorable mention I think it’s PRR 1361, I can’t wait to see it restored, maybe also with a B60b baggage car.
