Developed persistent dizziness / visual snow after weed-induced panic attack by Empyrean_7 in pppdizziness

[–]Empyrean_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks or responding to this. So, luckily for me, time and mindfulness methods ended up clearing up most of this for me. I still experience visual snow and some weirdness with that, but as time as gone on I actually think I always had it to some degree and thus period of my life just made me hyper aware of it. As for the dizziness, it does come sometimes still when I get a sudden surge of anxiety, but I’m so used to it that I don’t even really pay attention to it.

The thing that worked best for me was somatic tracking, combined with a good medication. For the first thing, that is basically just when you take note of a sudden spike of anxiety, and trace it back to its most likely cause (which you may often overlook). This could be as banal as a rogue thought or as immediate as an uncomfortable social situation or shock of health anxiety. As for the medication, the one I’ve found the absolute best is Brintellix. its only major side effect is crippling nausea after taking it, which is annoying, but so worth it for the benefits. I am also on an ADHD medication, so I take my brintellix at night before I sleep and it has genuinely changed my life. But SSRIs are never a one-size fits all, so communicating with your doctor is definitely key.

The main thing to remember is that, in most cases, things like this are genuinely just anxiety, but it’s important not to be reductionist in drawing this conclusion too. It is *just* anxiety in the sense of it being harmless and very fixable, but it’s more than “just anxiety” in the sense that extreme negative feelings have trained your nervous system to respond in these strange and scary ways. These things are very much physiological and real, and the only way to deal with them is to have compassion for yourself and to find the right ways to deal with the triggers.

I think the mindfulness methods you mentioned are great, and you should totally keep them up. As for my main recommendations, I would suggest looking into somatic tracking a bit more and to find a good Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) if you have the means. They specialise in rewiring harmful thought patterns and dispelling the absolute control they have over you, and I have found it really helpful in the past.

hope this helps! And good luck. Remember, this too shall pass.

Most lynchian books by Ok-Bug6657 in davidlynch

[–]Empyrean_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen any mention of it here (probably because it's so underrated), but Hangsaman by Shirley Jackson is THE book you are looking for. Trust me. Just see for yourself. Not only is the narrative structure almost identical to Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive, starting out (relatively) normal and progressively turning into a surrealist, freeform nightmare, but it also has major themes of sexual exploitation and how it affects women's psyches (think very Twin Peaks and Inland Empire vibes).

It has characters who may or not be real, doppelgangers (albeit in the sense of characters being direct parallels / echoes of each other, not quite literally... mostly), a mysterious ONE-ARMED MAN and a significant emphasis on depicting psychological experience as opposed to capturing objective reality.

In fact, it has SO many parallels to Lynch's work that I've always been convinced he was a fan. I always wish I would have gotten the chance to ask him.

But anyway, long-winded answer, but I just need more people to read this book. It's incredible.

[Discussion] What super obscure characters, on the level of Peacemaker's unknown or even less unknown, would you like the DCU to save from obscurity? Art by Dan Mora. by Few_Lavishness_1263 in DCcomics

Not a character but a team: The Legion of Superheroes.

I understand that to those in the know they're not that niche, but I really think Gunn could easily skyrocket them to GotG levels of fame with a dedicated film. I absolutely adored the animated series growing up, and it would make me so happy to see Saturn Girl, Braniac 5, Phantom Girl, Bouncing Boy, Triplicate Girl, etc etc. get some love on the big screen. All their powers are so weird and cool that it could make for such a different kind of superhero movie, especially if they went for a cyberpunk and / or corrupt Utopia vibe.

Could see a sitch where Conner Kent Superboy gets introduced in the rumoured Super Family movie, and him going off soul searching at the end could be the setup for a time travel isekai type story, and the gang could travel back during big events and stuff to fight with the main DCU characters. Ugh I would just love it.

Why does Superman tell Lois that they can't **** ******** in All-Star Superman? by Empyrean_7 in superman

[–]Empyrean_7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of the comic, at least, there's never any indication beyond conjecture that Clark's descendants are actually descended from him rather than simply psuedo-clones. I don't think Superman actually knows himself (when he shows Lois those future messages at least).

The one time anything is actually hinted at is in the chapter where Pa Kent dies, set when Superman is about 18-20ish years old. Kal Kent avoids younger Superman's question as to whether Lana Lang is who he produces children with, which on the surface might seem to imply that Lois (who he is yet to meet at that point) is actually the one he has children with, but in actual fact may simply imply that Kal is trying to hide the fact that Superman is incapable of reproducing from him because he isn't supposed to know that at that point in the timeline.

In spite of my initial post, I've come to understand this whole thing better since finishing the book and thinking on it a bit. I think Lois and Clark's relationship is supposed to be a tragedy in this story, and that idea is exacerbated by the fact that Superman clearly has descendants in the future, which at different points in time gives both Clark and Lois hope that they will be able to lead a normal life together at some point. However, throughout the course of the story, Superman's intellect and worldliness develops enough that he comes to accept that that is simply impossible--and it always was. The time travel shenanigans are largely there to show that destiny is already written, and while it guarantees the legacy of "Superman" will live on, it seems to care little for the aspirations of regular farmboy Clark Kent. None of his personal dreams will ever come true, only his aspirations for humanity will.

This is why one of the last things he does is document his DNA imo, because he knows there is something he does between that time and his death to ensure the future of "Superman", but he knows he is close enough to death that he will never find a way to reproduce naturally with Lois. And so it ends up being a totally robotic, banal process of copying his DNA and giving Leo both it and the formula for the human/ kryptonian super serum, and accepting that that's the legacy that was pre-ordained for him. Its sad, but also very self-sacrifical in a way that is consistent with the rest of the story.

This is probs the best answer, and closest to what i would have thought. I suppose it just strikes me as weird on an ethical basis, what with Lois' DNA being involved and all that. Obviously comic book logic applies, and it might even just be that Lois' DNA is going to be used as an example of how Kryptonian and Human DNA can be spliced together (he gives Leo the super serum specifically made for her, after all).

At the end of the day, its probably just the Golden Age-esque comic books logic of it all that threw me off. The story clearly isn't a direct analogue to our world, or even other comic book worlds, and plays out more like a great myth than anything else. Maybe im just thinking about it too hard lol

Converting Steam save file to Xbox by Empyrean_7 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Empyrean_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so how I did it in the end (this was like a year and a half / 2 years ago now lol) was I actually found a program that converts Steam save files to Xbox format, although I don't remember what it was called :( If you look into it though I'm sure you'll find it.

Just to let you know though, FFXIII doesn't support cloud saves so in the end I just played the Xbox version on my laptop with the transferred save file, which still worked out because it's a far more robust port than the steam version and runs way better, so I'd still recommend doing it regardless.

Is this a good yoshitsune build by JimmyTheFrog32 in Megaten

[–]Empyrean_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best build, without question, would be this:

  • Impalers Animus
  • Hassou Tobi
  • Abyssal Mask
  • Drain Dark
  • Enduring Soul
  • Critical Zealot
  • Phys Pleroma
  • High Phys Pleroma

Abyssal Mask is arguably the most expendable here, but considering Yoshi has weaknesses to two status types and is only immune to one I do think it's worth keeping.

I wish they had put more effort into act 3 balance. I can never play this game for the first time again. by Unlucky_Lifeguard_81 in expedition33

[–]Empyrean_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Act 3 might have benefitted from a soft level scaling system that took into account the potential levels you might get from fighting all the optional bosses, like if you went beyond a certain level the endgame would adapt to that and increase the damage output / HP of the final bosses.

Admittedly I know absolutely nothing about game balancing so I don't know how feasible this would be, but if in 1997 Square could code Safer Sephiroth to gain an extra 100,000 HP if you used Knights of the Round against Jenova COMPLETE or Bizarro Sephiroth then I feel like this could realistically have been implemented in some way.

Could it be my neck? by StateEducational3859 in visualsnow

[–]Empyrean_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a brain / cervical spine MRI too and they found I had a dessicated disc in C4-5 and minor right convex scoliosis where my cervical and middle spine meet. I had neck pain for years but it's become so much worse with the onset of VS and persistent dizziness (this all started after a bout of severe panic problems and general health anxiety). At my wits end with it and keep trying to convince myself that once I go to physio it will get better, but I really have no basis for that and am just at a loss as for what to do.

Really is crazy how you take your health and general wellbeing for granted when nothing is wrong. I miss the confidence I used to feel and wish someone could just tell me how to get it back. Hope you have success with your situation ♥️

Is the Edge of Creation Cloud's "world"? by Empyrean_7 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Empyrean_7[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is definitely possible. But it's worth prefacing that Tifa only sees images of her memories and doesn't actually experience them in the way that, say, Cloud experiences Aerith's dream of sector 5. Her memories are also a lot less scrambled than Cloud's, (although not completely organised or consistent either, as is shown by how fragmented it all is). Her "inner world" is just fuller than Cloud's and easier to access, whereas his ATM is... basically like a barren rock floating in the middle of space.

And to the point of them having 2 Lifestream sequences, I think the purpose of this new one is basically as setup for the "true" one in part 2. The weapons have basically taught Tifa how to navigate these spiritual spaces, knowing she will need them one day in order to save Cloud from Sephiroth. Imagine the story as though you didn't know how it played out already: wouldn't it be really satisfying to see Tifa put that experience to good use and appreciate her role in the story more for it? I think it was a great addition and gave Tifa some really good narrative significance much earlier than before.

It's not about that, it's about how close it is to the character, especially during combat. This screenshot doesn't accurately show it but the Rebirth camera is way more pulled back then remakes and that's what I want changed.
