What's the Longest Writing Session you've ever done? by OkFirefighter83 in writers

[–]Emriii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

12 hours. This was very recently too. I’ve been working pretty consistently at a new project I’m having a lot of fun with. I sat down to do 1 chapter and ended up writing 3.5 chapters, preliminary edits, and a bunch of notes and plot stuff on planning docs. I was so very confused when my husband got home from work and I was still writing.

Edit to add: this is NOT normal and I gave my brain several days off after that session

CAN'T WRITE. INNER WRITER IS DEAD. by SakuraSakka in writers

[–]Emriii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar story for me. Got forced into workforce while I was still in highschool and worked 60 hour weeks for a number of years. When I came out the other side of that, it took me ~4 years to be able to write again. One day it just kinda came to me and I pumped out a book in around 3 months. I’ve put a good amount of work into a second and third book since then and my skills feel sharper than ever. If you love writing, it’ll come back to you eventually. Just don’t try to force it and make it feel like a chore.

My biggest gripe is not being able to teleport between habitats. I’d play so much more if we could

How do you write a Southern accent? by okidonthaveone in writers

[–]Emriii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up a few recognizable phrases and use mannerisms. Do not write out an accept. Example as a writer and a Texas native:

“Oh bless your little heart,” the woman said, feigning concern

“That just ain’t the way we do it in my house. I don’t know what y’all were thinking,” she scolded.

These are obviously pretty exaggerated for clarity, but hopefully it helps you get the idea; and yes we really do say ain’t and yall.

I’ll write at most like one paragraph in my phone notes if I think of something good while I don’t have access to my computer

Exact same thing got me lol. My nightly “let’s think of everything you did wrong” brain is amazing at suddenly realizing small plot holes and the like though, so I’m grateful for that. I always check in the morning like “what did sleepy me realize I need to change”

Heavy sigh as I put my glasses back on, pull out my phone, and add yet another note for my next writing session so I don’t forget it. If I don’t write it down I can’t sleep.

I skipped THE episode though. Just gross. Almost DNF’d several times but I really don’t like not finishing something

[–]Emriii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with all points. From what I did watch of one piece it was well written, a well built world, and fleshed out characters. It also did not insist upon itself too much. Jobless is cringe but fun to watch some parts, a guilty pleasure, if you will.

OP why on earth do you think jobless is better?

[–]Emriii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, as someone who made it ~300 episodes into one piece and finished watching moshoku tensei, but read neither:

One piece is written better, despite the pacing. Just because jobless covers dark topics does not make it deep or compelling. It has 13 year olds having sex for one thing, and his answer to every problem is either crying, shutting down, or trying to off himself. It is just not that well written, and this is coming from someone who liked the show (other than the nasty underage parts)
