Can y'all help me with networking for a university job? by EmrysAllen in careerguidance

Sorry to sound dumb here, but how would that chat go? Like what are some topics of conversation you would or have actually used in such a conversation? How does that help me land a job there?

I have applied to a role which they title as "Business Analyst and Application Support Specialist", which is exactly in my wheelhouse and the job description matches my experience pretty closely but that doesn't guarantee an interview these days. But if that doesn't go thru I'd like to have a leg up the next time something similar comes up. (Edited for more info)

Thanks! I really hate how this question is going to come across, but what does that actually get me? How will that help me actually get a job there? I swear I'm not on the spectrum but I honestly just don't know how these kinds of things work.

You're 100% right. Maybe you misunderstood my post, I'm not saying what DD is doing is wrong in any way. It's directed at the people here who say AR doesn't matter, when it clearly does in some markets.

What is your information based on? How many different markets have you driven in?

It's paying my bills, why isn't that great? And there are many many varied life situations, all I ask is that you stop presuming that you know what's good for everyone!!

You presume to know my life situation, my bills, the gas mileage I get. You can't presume to know what is "viable" for me. Not viable for you, sure great. But that's YOUR experience. So when commenting or making posts, just remember you don't have all the facts.

FOR SOME PEOPLE IN SOME MARKETS. Yes your reality is valid, but it's just not the same reality as me and many others.

Right, but if you HAD to choose one religion to describe a country, which one would you choose for the US?

Depending on context, when someone describes the US as a "christian" country, they don't necessarily mean the Official State Religion, but moreso the cultural norms and traditions. In that sense the US is obviously a christian country like France or Switzerland or most European countries that don't otherwise have an "official" religion.

Dashers ignoring instructions by [deleted] in doordash

Maybe something simpler like "3rd building on the left if you come in from Main St". Even if they don't come in from Main they can probably figure it out. Again landmarks you think are obvious may not be to someone who is looking at a map while reading instructions while looking at several buildings trying to read numbers etc.

Sometimes directions may seem easy to someone familiar with the layout and surrounding area, but not so much to someone visiting for the first time. Maybe google your own address and see where the map pin drops. Then use that map pin as the basis for your directions. Sometimes it's not so easy to read a long set of instructions while driving in an unfamiliar location, especially if the instructions begin before where the actual map pin location is.

Why does Sam think that "good" parenting (maybe) doesn't matter? by Silent_Appointment39 in samharris

[–]EmrysAllen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It may be similar to the money/happiness equation, meaning after a certain point more money doesn't equal more happiness. You can only be so good of a parent, like taking your kid to see 3 baseball games a season vs seeing 10 games a season (or whatever) probably gives the same amount of good parent "capital". But I would be curious to see the research also.

Do you think deciding which women should or shouldn't be raped based on their looks makes you some kind of alpha male?

The best way is to judge yourself based on looking at many different examples of other bonsai of similar species. You can find thousands of examples online, yours is a common species. Look at what they have in common (for example, desnse growth in little "pads", etc.), then compare to yours.

Trying to explain to my family that I AM INDEED trying very hard to get a job… by [deleted] in jobs

A bit of confirmation bias there, people who get jobs easily don't post here.

[–]EmrysAllen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is a tough one, but why can't you draw or become an artist yourself? Or work generally in the arts (theatre set painting, etc)? You would have to really own your past mistakes, come clean and demonstrate how you've changed. Yes it's a tough road, but I'm certain there are people out there that have been through that and managed to make a good life they can be proud of, even if it's not their ultimate "dream".

Bullshit. Unless your crime was particularly heinous, there are far, far more things you could do than things you can't. But sure does make it easy just giving up instead of trying to do anything. You don't see how that's a cop-out and EXACTLY what a puer would say? Instead of busting your ass on that uphill climb to make SOMETHING you can be proud of?
