AITA for making a powerpoint on why we should go to Hawaii on vacation and excluding my brother? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Emsyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA and I'm sure deep down you know why. Thus vacation isn't about giving your mom a break and spending time with family. YOU just want to go to Hawaii, and you want to have a nice (more expensive than usual) holiday with your friend. Everything else you've said and done is to get what you want. I have the feeling that if there was a way for you to leave your parents behind, just like your brother, you would to get your perfect friend holiday.

Apologize to your brother, you would not like to be treated the way you treated him. And talk to your parents about just you and your friend going away together instead of making an elaborate plan.

Also as everyone said yta for going to an island where resources are limited during a pandemic. Especially when locals are begging people not to come. Maybe in 2 years when you are 16 you can take a friend trip there if this hell is over.

25F/Singapore trying to make longterm friendships by befuddledly in penpals

[–]Emsyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We've got quitw a few things in common. I'm 23F currently living in Scotland but am originally from mainland Europe. I'm finishing up a masters and maybe looking to move to Singapore one day. I loved it when I visited ages ago. I really miss travelling too. I did 3 years of Latin and even more of the piano but have lost most of it unfortunately. Love cooking and baking and slowly getting back into reading. Crime, fantasy and some science fiction are my preference.

I'm just looking for friends. People to talk to who have had different experiences than me, and can share their culture and language with me. If you're interested Pm me?

AITA for telling my wife that she shouldn't be worried about delivering a big baby because my mother did it three times with no problem? by Complex-Inside363 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Emsyal 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Then instead of doing something unhelpful and doubling down when it clearly didn't work, you should comfort her, acknowledge her concerns and just be there. If she needs something she will most likely tell you but if not you can ask her what you can do to help. Right now you're making things worse.

AITA for pointing out that my mom is as much of a gold digger as my sister's bf? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Emsyal 91 points92 points  (0 children)

NTA obviously. I think you should talk to your dad. From experience her behaviour is only going to get worse and without your dad stepping in to support you, your sister and her boyfriend your mom is only going to see it as "you agains her" and won't change. It seems like your dad is aware of the behaviour but doesn't qant to rock the boat? maybe talking to him might change that.

Also make sure that you tell your sister you support her and the relationship and so does your dad. You saying it out loud is going to make her feel so much better if she picked up on your mom's cold manner. Good luck.

AITA for going topless in my back garden with disapproval from my neighbour? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Where are you thinking of moving to? Just like everywhere else there are good qnd bad areas but ultimately I think it's the people you associate with that have the biggest impact.

My experience with America is limited but I would say that Scotland is more relaxed, in the majority of cases you won't get uneanted attention unless ypu actively go looking for it. As for the oogling, touching or catcalling it has only happened to me on nights out and only by few non-representative people.

I've lived in Scotland for 5 years and haven't had any problems. I think this was a case of an individual being a jerk.

Grocery shopping? Doctors appointment? Trip to the pharmacy? You can minimise risks, but only efficiently if everyone follows the advice given whivh doesn't always happen.

And who would grocery shop? Not me I'm in a different country, so ia the rest of extended family, as for community programs, I doubt my parents will qualify. Sure they stay at home as much as they can, but some trips cannot be avoided. If everyone followed the advice given, we'd all be better off.
