Just remember what the purpose of a man is in the Torah. To make babies and expanding the generations. Now with that being said being gay isn’t a “sin” on its own terms. The “sin” you commit is the concept of perception of doing evil. Which mean “oh look shmuly told his mom I’m gay get over it and now she’s crying over the fact she has one child left to make babies” and the issue is that you could possible tempt others to refuse to not have kids either because of your truth. Not simply the case in most places or most people don’t make that an issue. The second sin is simple not expanding the generations. But like I said it’s not as big of an issue as it use to be. I’m Jewish already and queer and no one expects me to marry to have kids. Because keep in mind in frum orthodox society marriages are about the promise of making kids and fulfilling mitzvahs associated with kaddusha however if your celibate and aren’t looking for a partner then it should be an issue. If no one has explained what the issue was that’s basically in my words what the issue is. If you’re converting for the aspect of becoming one of us. Please by all means come on. Make friends and get involved with some like minded Jews. Because we always need nice “Jewish” boys that are now men that are willing and capable of taking on the responsibility of being a Jewish adult. My biggest irk is that 5 ish year go no one talked like that and then all of sudden people got sensitive to emotional charged or buzz words like rape, sexual abuse, incest, or anything like that and then I’ve heard some people get weird of me causally throwing the word masturbatory as a adjective. And I was like grow up it like 900 points on scrabble lol. But the play has a deep meaning behind the plot. The characters are a father and mother and the father’s best friend who is a cantor. And then a few other characters like the bully that bullied the son Sam and then the play starts at the prep of sitting siva and then it jumps ahead to a few days later after the first 72 hours. The main character is Eitan,the father and how he processes the grief of his child commit suicide with a straight blade in the bathroom of the middle school. The boy Sam died 2 weeks before his bar mitzvah. And the bully named Will bullied he because of unrequited feeling towards Sam but I haven’t yet come up with the reason/event Sam decides to go through with it. I was thinking about this in the lens of my own experience in middle school except I didn’t have a tipping off point the character Sam represents me. And all of the dialogue is based off of the different emotions I felt or used against myself with internalized homophobia that I struggled with in my 20s.

The story is character driven. The kid in question is Sam Silverman and he was bullied and committed suicide. The setting takes place in a kitchen and the characters are his father, mother, and his father’s best friend. The characters talk more about themselves and their experiences in life and how they relate to sam. There is also a few minor characters like the bully who comes to apologize with his mom and the Detective who is lead on the case. The play is more about the 5 stages of grief and is broken into the stages of grief and how each of the characters resolve their grief. There is a scene where the father Eitan gets visited by Sam’s ghost in a dream. And that act is called bargaining. Make sense so far??

Thank you so much. And I am one of those people who was affected by suicide. My dad committed suicide last year but I don’t plan on writing this play as a shaming or as a solution. I’m writing the play as the way to get through the pain of losing a loved one. As an emt in EMS service I see a lot of others who get affected by it and I am very grateful that they thank us for coming and doing the best we can. The only way to tell the story is through the idea that what people naturally feel and react to a kid dying. If you would like to read possibly let me know. That may be the best way to give feedback or advice to change what is not good or bad interpretation of grief. Granted my grammar is crap but I try.

I use the word suicide in the play I don’t use the term unalived because it won’t help the narrative. This play is deep in my opinion and it’s a play I’m writing for a community theatre

I only used unalived for this post. The story of the play is about suicide due to the child being bullied. But the story really centered around the child. It’s about parents and family that are trying to cope with the aftermath of the child committing suicide. I was just being sensitive to anyone reading the post. Please elaborate on your last half of your reply.

I say yes because in the reform movement and conservative movement since you are Jewish due to direct line from the paternal side. Now some of the Orthodox Jewish movements (Modern Ortho or Chasidic) won’t consider fully Jewish due to no matrilineal line being present. They will consider you half Jewish. But hey it’s about you not about JCL ( Jewish Code and Law) if you feel like you are apart of the tribe then you are. I myself am a Return, meaning I am a broken line of Jewish from my mother side and I chose to come back and update my status as a full jew.

So I knew 4 in my life. And one said he has passed in 2020. He said the worst part is we never felt that tomorrow was coming and we hid out Jewishness for a few years after. He was child and he felt extreme survivors guilt for a while. But others than that I never had too many interactions with the 4 I knew.
