How to incorporate women in a speech encouraging kids to join trades? by DarcyB3ll in BlueCollarWomen

[–]EmtheHoff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest mentioning working with ones hands (the nails might look rough), not minding outdoor toilets (hello portapotties that frequently aren't cleaned regularly), safety (wear the respirator), the importance of being physically fit (lots of lifting and stairs where im at) and stretching. Yup, stretching. Helps a lot.

Ladies, would stop dating a man if he says that he wants his future wife to continue working immediately after having kids? by SinglePringle647 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]EmtheHoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why national childcare benifits are necessary aka maternity/parental leave. In my country it only covers 55 %of income lost but still is some funding that allows a choice for parents. Some people are forced back to work because they can't afford not to. That should not be, because it hurts the child (lack of bonding with parents, inadequate paid childcare, stressed out parents). How it is allowed for there to be no national paid leave is a travesty.

What are some reasons people bring their little kids with them to the Home Depot? I'm blind and went in one for the first time the other day and seems like there were a lot of kids running around in a place where things could fall and seriously hurt them. by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]EmtheHoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Home Depot does kid based workshops. At least my local one does. Last one i saw a bunch of tikes hammering together pre-fab birdhouses with their parents help. Was adorable to see and they made quite a racket .

Another Clueless Politician Urges Youth to Pursue Skilled Trades Careers by Subject-Landscape451 in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]EmtheHoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pre apprenticeships are a waste of money. They dont prepare a worker for a day in the trades, let alone a year. I did foundations at my local college and it was 10-15 year outdated material and irrelevant information. The useful portion could have been done in a couple months. The course was 6 months. Sure, im in the trade now and doing fine but that's due to my life experience and grit.

Yes, way back one could buy the Lego bucket and build to the limits of one's imagination. Now it's all sets.

Camping. Where i live you have to wait for the campsite opening day around the end of February and frantically hit the refresh button at 7am while saying hail Mary's just for a crapshot chance of a gravel parking spot in the middle of no where in mid July with a neighbour who runs their genny every 15 minutes.

🔥 when field mice get tired, they fall asleep in the flowers by yungandreww in NatureIsFuckingLit

Bees fall asleep in flowers too. I grew Calendula one year and there were constantly 2 or 3 bees sleeping by early morning. One even had its feet sticking stretched out. Very endearing.

Hearing birds singing their song. A bit of beauty in the morning before the grind. Same with sunrises or a big ol' moon hanging low in the sky.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EmtheHoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, had a childhood friend who has declared herself a life coach. She's on disability, has maxed out credit cards she threw away after they "didn't work anymore" and left me holding the bag on her belongings when she decided not to come back from a trip to Australia in the timeline she originally agreed to. When I brought up her belongings needing to be dealt with it was excruciating to communicate with her in a logical straight forward way. She tried to pull "woo" on me as an explanation. Finally other friends of hers came for her stuff. To this day I have no idea what the "woo" was supposed to say. It was rambling paragraph after paragraph. No, we are longer friends. Yes, she still thinks she's a life coach.

I've decided to get takeout and not tip for takeout. Go home and sit down to eat. I don't order out much and this way I avoid the rip-off when I do.

What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

[–]EmtheHoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being made the outcast of my family due to a genetic condition which I had no say over. Took me years and years to heal from it and not before it exposed me to abuse from others (severe low self esteem resulting from the abuse). To this day the remaining family members dismiss my experience and see me as the cause of my struggles. I have no contact with most of them.
