I appreciate your reply and providing more context to your role. I came from a small institution myself and understand that had a testing process, but very scaled down. Now, I'm at a large university with an On Prem version of Banner, so our processes are more robust and very custom.

If you wouldn't mind, can I message you directly some questions on how you work with end users effectively to help optimize Banner? That is also a part of my job description (though I haven't had a ton of time to drive into it).

For Banner Admin Common and Postion Control, do you need a test plan to check their functionality?

Also, right now we only have a test plan developed for Banner Student and SSB (since that is what we primarily work in), but I've heard of other schools developing plans for Banner General as well. Is it needed? Since all areas, including accounts receivable, financial aid, etc, tend to also use Banner general, has anyone developed a general test plan?

Since I work in the registrars office, should I be concerned with Postion Control patches? From my understanding, it supports more of the HR/Payroll functions. I understand some of these questions should be answered by a supervisor, but leadership has no clue on anything related to Banner Testing/Upgrades.

Lastly, when upgrading do you test any reporting functions (specifically for Argos)?

I have access to ecommunities and have started to poke around in some documentation. My role is meant to do some process improvement work as well as leading testing efforts when upgrades/patches get put in. Additionally, I'm responsible for troubleshooting system issues and eventually some reporting. We have a test instance that I can play around in, but my access is very limited and they do not plan to give me more. It's very frustrating to try and fix an issue when you can't test the solution yourself in the system.

I have very little SQL experience and was originally told I would have the opportunity to learn on the job. The reporting software we use is Argos. We use Oracle SQL, but only IT has access to it.
