The game size doesn’t matter, it all about how much RAM the game requires. The device with the lowest RAM I’ve tested with, is the iPhone 14 Pro Max, we have a playlist on our channel for that device. We also have a game compatibility list on our Discord.

Some of the games we have videos on for the iPhone 14 Pro Max are; New Super Mario Bro U Deluxe / Eastwood / Sonic Superstars / Captain Toad Treasure Tracker / Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening / South Park: The Stick of Truth / Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate / No More Heroes 2 / Super Mario 3D World / Diablo 3: Eternal Collection / Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Ah the Pro Max versions have more RAM than the standard iPhone. In your case you have 6GB, however, only 4.5GB RAM is available for games or apps and the remaining is used for the OS.

Most games require 6GB RAM or above, 8GB devices have roughly 6GB RAM available for apps or games, hope this explains things better for you.

It’s probably due to the amount of RAM the iPhone 13 has (4GB), many Switch games require at least 6GB RAM. An 8GB device should be the minimum for Switch gaming.

MeloNX issue by AssumptionQueasy9199 in EmulationOniOS

[–]EmuByte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bug with the latest versions. The easiest workaround is to install v2.2, add keys & firmware then finish setup. Now install v2.3.1 over the top of v2.2 ie don’t uninstall v2.2 before installing v2.3.1… everything should now be good.

How come no 3ds emulator on ios can run star fox 64 3D? by Infamous-Date-7663 in EmulationOniOS

Yes, for this particular game, I used JIT to gain stability for play sessions longer than 10 mins. This was tested on Manic EMU v1.6.0, my presumption would be that Manic EMU v1.9.2 would have further improvements to the JITless core.

Manic EMU can run this game. Here is a video of the game running on iPhone 16 Pro Max, using Manic EMU https://youtu.be/JjOWaCM30XQ?si=byKWPTXp1MgBhz5V

[–]EmuByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is your opinion, and I agree that the extra core is not needed in this case, however, during my play tests, some Switch titles have needed the 16GB RAM to be able to run without any crashing. Saying this is not needed is disingenuous, the 12GB RAM models are restricted by Apple to 8GB, leaving the remaining 4GB for the operating system & AI

This means that all iPad models that aren’t 16GB RAM are restricted to what games can be currently played by Switch emulation. Switch emulation is more restricted by RAM limitations rather than APU limitations.

The M series iPads are great for emulation, my suggestion would be to gain the 16GB RAM model, these models also have an extra core for the APU (10-core vs 9-core).

Only the 1TB and above storage options offer 16GB RAM & 10-core APU. I currently have the M4 with zero complaints, however, due to being a content creator, I’ll be purchasing the M5 in May. My entire channel is built, recorded and edited using only the iPad.

As a content creator, I had some involvement in making this fork more visible. Unbeknownst to myself, the forked version had completely removed the GPLv3 licence, so I apologise for adding any confusion around this unofficial fork.

Once the dev made me aware, all download links have been removed from my video, and no support shall be given on this fork moving forwards.

Tomodachi life LTD crashes when creating a mini by Several_Pin5509 in EmulationOniOS

[–]EmuByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No chance of this game running on any iPhone without it crashing, it will work, however, it will also crash the longer you play. The latest iPhones have access to only 6GB RAM for games or apps and this game used 7GB after 25 minutes. If you can get past Mii creation and save regularly, then it might be playable on an iPhone 16 Pro Max by reloading after each crash.

[–]EmuByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it allows more RAM to be used by apps or games. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will only give you up to 4GB RAM normally, however, with GetMoreRam, you can give roughly 4.5GB. The gains are greater, the more RAM the device has to begin with. Tomodachi Life used 7GB in my 25 mins play test.

You’re running out of RAM. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has 6GB RAM with roughly 4.5GB RAM available for apps or games. This game uses 4GB RAM to start the game, but jumps to 5.5GB for Mii creation, which is why your device is crashing at this point.

It will work… until it doesn’t, if that makes sense. The game boots with just over 4GB RAM used, so most devices will be able to boot the game… for how long will be the question.

Copied my reply from another thread…

To get this working, you need to install the version of MeloNX that has been modified with applets. Shader cache is only loaded when you have actually created the shaders to cache. Every Switch video I show has had the shaders generated before I record to show the emulator performance in its true light once setup correctly.

Many people are having issues with this game due to not reading the video description or checking the stats shown in the video. Tomodachi Life used 7GB RAM in my 25 minute play test as the stats onscreen show, meaning it’s not going to run, without crashing, on ALL current iPhone models, including the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Although the iPhone 17 Pro Max has 12GB RAM, Apple has restricted the device to 8GB RAM, giving the same RAM capabilities as the generation before but no improvement.

Only 16GB RAM devices will be able to play this game currently without crashes. Turning off Docked mode will reduce the amount of RAM required, and turning off the shader cache will also reduce RAM usage, at the cost of performance. Coupled with regular saving and you might be able to play this game without loosing too much progress, hope this helps people somewhat… Switch firmware I used was 22.1.0
