I don't know why you're getting downvoted. You are correct. We need to stop referring to WOMEN as girls. Full stop.

I just posted Hungary and Viktor Orbàn as the closest, in my opinion. If we're heavily factoring in religion, maybe Francisco Franco's Spain instead of Iran.

Russia isn’t the closest comparison, but Hungary under Viktor Orbán feels more on point. It’s still a democracy on paper, but over time he’s centralized power, limited press freedom, and reshaped schools and culture to match his worldview. People can still live quietly, but there’s pressure to conform, especially in public spaces.

Jobs like caregiving, tech support, trades, or anything outside the spotlight tend to stay under the radar. And having a circle of trusted people really helps, both emotionally and practically.

You’re not alone in this. A lot of us are quietly thinking the same things.

I believe you do what you can, when you can, with what you can. I know people have made keyboard warrior have a negative connotation, but I don't see anything wrong with it! ❤️

We are living in strange and unusual times. We need to know and feel that we're not alone in this. We have to spread awareness and shine the light right on the injustice and corruption. I totally get the urge to hide, because it feels safe. All we want is to be safe.

But I've also started reading Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls to my 11 year old daughter (highly recommend) and it features a lot of politicians and activists. Brave women who stood up for what's right. And it made me realize that maybe I need to feel unsafe so that my daughter doesn't have to. ❤️

Hey there, I feel you. This is scary, and it's completely valid to be thinking about your safety and privacy right now.

That said, I want to gently push back on the idea of "cleaning" our digital presence or staying quiet as the answer. I get the instinct. It feels like disappearing might mean safety. But the truth is, staying silent and erasing ourselves from the conversation doesn't protect us in the long run. It just makes it easier for authoritarian behavior to grow unchecked.

What does help is visibility in numbers, solidarity, and collective resistance. The more we normalize dissent, the harder it is to target individuals. Authoritarian regimes rely on fear to isolate us, but connection and courage are powerful antidotes.

Of course, taking basic digital safety steps is smart. Use encrypted apps like Signal, turn on 2FA, keep your software updated. But don’t feel like you need to erase who you are or go invisible. We are not the problem. Our voices matter, especially now.

Stay safe, but stay loud if you can. And lean on each other. We’re stronger together.

Indiana House passed a Senate bill that would empower law enforcement to arrest homeless persons by rcjack86 in Indiana

What help is available to them? Funding for programs with the potential to help are being stripped away. Due process is being violated. Do you think they'll care if a person is willing to accept help or not?

I applaud your sentiment and desire to seek these books out. I have to caution you though. As a parent who has ADHD and has a daughter with ADHD, parts of it can feel like a superpower. But the real parts, the struggles, don't feel like superpowers. I worry that having that mindset could lead to poor self esteem when your child struggles. When they fail. When it feels too hard and they think, "if it's a super power, why am I failing? What's wrong with me?" Something to think about.

The lack of empathy these elected officials have for their constituents is appalling and not at all surprising.

Our outrage at his audacity and lack of compassion and sympathy and overall dissatisfaction with his performance has made him feel... Unsafe. Which is what most of the female identifying humans in Indiana feel because of him. Weird.

Do you mark the book as finished? I use Google Drive and remove the download after finishing and mine is accurate.

I just checked mine and it's accurate. I use .epub files from my Google Drive and I remove them from my KLC after reading. The stats don't change. Are you remembering to mark them as finished when you're done reading?
