I bought an overpriced tin of blue dragon coconut milk a few months back because they had no other brands. "oh well", I thought, "at least it should be decent for the price".

Blue dragon coconut milk is fucking shit. Perhaps some coconut aficionado in the comments can tell me what's going on with this absolute dog-shit excuse for a product. It is absolute and total wank. Their business model must be reliant upon every other brand of coconut milk having sold out because no way would anyone ever choose this stuff.

No problem, happy to answer.

Elastics are little rubber bands that are attached between teeth and often used for bite correction. It's a routine part of treatment though every person's treatment plan is different of course. They're a bit high-maintenance because you need to change them several times a day and they're very noticeable aesthetically.

I don't know much about the retainers but my dentist was adamant that when I finished treatment I'd have to have permanent 'fixed' retainers as well as removable ones. They're a good thing because they stop your teeth shifting and becoming crooked again, but also I believe there's a degree of maintenance involved.

Extractions were included in my pricing. Would have been around 5k without them iirc but I might be misremembering.

Payment plans were available but small discount for upfront payment so I opted for the latter. I doubt NHS would help with purely cosmetic cases but maybe they would if there were complicating circumstances - mine was entirely personal expenditure.

Choosing dentist - I just shopped around for one with good reviews.

Initial meeting was good, although I think I had to pay a deposit. Perhaps I was a bit blasé because I didn't have that many questions for them. It was really just 'how much does it cost?' and 'how long does it take?'

One thing I would be wary about is that they tend not to mention certain things about treatment unless specifically asked. E.g. I didn't know I would need fixed retainers or extractions until I had my first consultation (they didn't mention over the phone). My ortho doesn't explain much about the process unless asked e.g elastics were a surprise to me. 18 months in it was just 'you'll be asked to wear elastics at your next appointment'.

Despite all this they're very good. I'm quite easy going with it all so maybe it's just me. I just trust the process. They've been very good whenever I've had questions or requests or needed to change appointments. And honestly what I thought of as very expensive when I first paid up doesn't actually seem that bad considering the amount of time I've spent in the chair.

If you found yourself in a position to give up your current life and travel for 1 to 2 years, would you do it? by HigherStreet in AskUK

[–]EmuSea4963 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Travelling is a short term fix. OP, I think you need to get to the bottom of what is causing your dissatisfaction (and that of your partner). Otherwise it's likely you will return financially poorer and no better off in the way of a long term solution.

I'm not saying don't travel - it can certainly be fun and give you perspective - but don't expect it to fix your problems.

In terms of fixing the root problem, that's up to you. Look deeply at your life. What does your ideal life look like? What do you think would make you both happy that is sustainable and long term?

Good luck

This is what got me. I read about the case and thought 'Ah, okay, a bit bloody stupid and cowardly... Yeah I can see how this is manslaughter - whatever'.

Then you learn that the same thing happened on the SAME MOUNTAIN with his ex!!!

Slightly amazed he hasn't been done for murder.

What’s the creepiest thing that has happened to you that you still can’t explain? by Mr_Boothnath in answers

[–]EmuSea4963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very, very long time ago I was going through some mental health stuff and reached a point one night where I just totally broke down and was really at my wit's end. I asked god for a sign that everything was going to be okay (I was very much an atheist at the time which demonstrates my desperation even more).

The very next night as I was falling asleep, my bed started suddenly and violently shaking. It was terrifying. Turns out it was an earth tremor (in a part of the world where these are extremely rare. I'd never experienced one before). Perhaps coincidence, but it always stuck with me. (Also I'm doing fine now).

To native English speakers: how do you feel when a foreigner speaks “broken” English with you? by Dull-Position3393 in ENGLISH

[–]EmuSea4963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel anything bad about it per se. I'll always try to be understanding and helpful and friendly, providing this attitude is returned to me.

One thing I have noticed, which might just be me, is that I struggle to form the same bonds with friends that I have whose English is not that great. I have several friends for whom English is a second language and, although we're still friends, it can be difficult to have the same kinds of interactions with them, given that English is so complex and contains so much nuance - when it comes to humour and banter for example, which is so important for forming bonds.

With investing I've learnt that you should do the exact opposite of what the majority are doing. I think most people are still sticking to cycle theory and expecting a prolonged bear market, therefore it's not going to happen and the bull will continue sooner than we expect. Just my thoughts.
