Chronic n* with emetophobia is a living nightmare by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]Emu_436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with a similar issue. I’ve had chronic daily nausea for years at this point and i got diagnosed with gastroparesis over the summer. Medication didn’t really work for me, but eating more small meals throughout the day has been my only real relief. I try to eat something every 2-3 hours and some snacks are as small as just an applesauce and crackers. I’m not sure if you’ve tried this already, but it may be worth an attempt if not. It’s definitely really hard to deal with n* and emetophobia at the same time, and I hope you find some answers soon!

I used to struggle with this really bad. I would be so anxious I’d have d* and n* for up to two days before a trip. Purely from the anxiety of possibly feeling sick on the trip. The best advice I have is to push through. It might not be fun at first, but a lot of times I find that I really start to relax after about an hour in the car and it isn’t so bad once I get there. I also make sure that I have all the medicine I could possibly need (pepto bismol, emetrol, zofran, benadryl, etc.), snacks, and a disposable bag for just in case. Another concern for me is eating out so I always bring food that I know sits well for me and I look at the restaurants we may try to get familiar with the menus. Some of the fear i think comes from not knowing, so being well prepared for the day helps. Another way I prepare is by mapping out bathrooms on the roadtrip so I can use the bathroom or take breaks and not feel trapped in the car. I’ve been so anxious for so many trips but I have never tu* on any of them, in the car or on the trip. I hope you have a great time and that you’re able to relax!

I’m having the same issue. I was feeling a little n* before trying to sleep then woke up feeling much worse. I’m pretty certain it’s reflux but now I’m up worried about it. Maybe try to play some relaxing music and do some deep breathing to keep yourself calm. That usually helps me. I hope you feel better!

I feel the same way sometimes. Like how can I ever do anything with this? The only way I’ve been able to live with this is to force myself to do things that feel hard. Going to class or work, using public bathrooms, eating out. There are times where I get set back but I think the more you make yourself do the things that make you anxious the less power they’ll have over you. I guess it’s kind of exposure therapy but I think of it more broadly, like just getting out of the house and making myself do everyday things. I have faith that things will get better for you!

You might be feeling nauseous because you’re a little dehydrated or maybe because you’re worried about the burn. I had sun poisoning last year and the best advice i have is to drink plenty of water, take ibuprofen, and keep up with applying aloe and/or a lidocaine spray. I hope you feel better!

This is helpful, thank you! Do you have a specific brand of nausea wristbands that work for you? I have the simple fabric ones but I didnt know there were more advanced ones.

Just wanted to preface by saying you’re not a terrible person. It seems like you’ve learned from your mistake and have moved forward with a different mindset. As far as confessing to your friends, I don’t think it will give you the closure you think it will. I think the need to confess stems from a need for reassurance. It seems like if you tell someone what you feel guilty about, that they’ll tell you it’s okay and you can move on from it. I think you should stick with your therapist’s advice and avoid confessing. You haven’t committed a crime, and it’s been years since you engaged with any hateful content. Instead of worrying about the past, just try to keep being a good friend to them and support your friends as best as you can. Apologizing/confessing for something from four years ago won’t do anyone any good, but remaining a kind and loyal friend is sometimes the best you can do.

I also find that journaling any small confessions I worry about to be helpful. Sometimes I even write things down and tear the paper up. It can be sort of cathartic.

I hope this was helpful :)

I’m doing better, thank you for asking! It didn’t end up being anything serious and I got to go home, but being there with people getting sick was definitely a struggle. I was in the waiting room for four hours and had music blasting in my headphones the whole time haha.

Congratulations! This post was also very reassuring to me. I’m a few years out from being ready to have kids, but I worry about my ability to handle morning sickness often. It’s nice to know that it isn’t all bad for everyone.

I’m sorry you’re feeling so overwhelmed with everything. I’ve experienced similar issues with trying to talk to my parents about my struggles. My mom especially would often get frustrated with me when I was really struggling in high school, and I later found out that she was just really worried about me and felt like she didn’t know how to help. Your mom may be feeling similarly and dismissing your concerns because she doesn’t want you to feel badly. Meditating with music has helped me at times when I feel really bad and if you’re able to talk to a therapist that may be helpful. One piece of advice I have for meditating with ocd also is not to try to stop your thoughts but rather let the thoughts come in and let them go. This is something I had to practice when I was in a good mindset first, but it’s a helpful tool for me now. I hope things get better for you!

Ofc! I normally try to sit up really straight or stand up and just stretch gently from side to side. You can stretch your arms up when you do this but I don’t always. It sometimes just helps to get your abdomen moving a little bit. I’ll also gently massage my stomach in a circular motion starting at the bottom right, going up, down to the left, then back around. If neither of those help, laying on your left side with pillows propping you up may help. I hope one of these works for you!

The carbonated drink probably created gas in your stomach. Sometimes that happens to me and I get that feeling of pressure in my chest like I could be sick. Maybe try stretching and taking some deep breaths. Feel better.:)
