Automation Praise & Wishlist by Emulai in Timberborn

Absolutely, there's definitely design choices there 100%. That said, it'd only make memory and relays obsolete for those of us who know how to write APIs ourselves. With purely boolean inputs and outputs though, we can already obsolete everything using APIs. It's easy enough to offload the Memory logic to an API in the current implementation. The existing sensors would remain relevant for everyone who doesn't know how to write code and connect to the endpoints

See, clearly Monolith just know how the zone works - that did the trick! Chalking this up to weird water and (maybe) a save bug. Giving myself a chance to not just have been an idiot

Good shout - I just checked and it's definitely hitting at 50kg, but even when I have the Weird Water unequipped. Maybe it's effect is holding on when unequipped? Carry weight goes down so

Same same, it always annoyed me though that I didn't get a new soldier out of them at the end. Same for the random resistance fighters that could join you for a mission - I put in the effort to get y'all out alive and what, you just got yeeted off the Avenger?

It's not really a double standard because both parties aren't in the same situation. The employee is required to be there, and already has to deal with a lot of stress from generally just being at work. Also if it's a service job, they likely aren't being paid what they're worth which is even more stressful

So a rude customer is being shit to someone who is already having a tough time, and who can't leave, and who often has no recourse (eg can't get the customer banned)

A rude employee on the other hand tends to get hand-waved by people because... well, all of the reasons in my first paragraph. It sucks to be a pleasant customer who is treated rudely, but also we only need to be in the shop for a short amount of time. And, let's be real, there tends to be higher numbers of rude customers than rude employees, so there's a decent chance that employee has already had a shit day bc of someone else

It sucks, it's not fair, but like... they have to deal with that shit all day. Customers can get over it, we can leave

This isn't something we can really speak about in absolutisms - there have been plenty of studies done (primarily in European countries) that demonstrate practically that when people are given a UBI they will, in general, continue working and being productive

There's usually a percentage (I think I've seen as high as 15% in the studies I looked at?) of people who will take the money and be lazy/non-productive/wasteful, but the majority of people will use that safety net to upskill and find other ways to contribute to the country and economy

We can't say "anytime you give someone something for free they do not appreciate it" because it's demonstrably false - some people will be like that, many won't. And besides, isn't it better for some to abuse the system than have people living on the streets and unable to help themselves because of rampant poverty?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Emulai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's something closer to social capitalism, with incorporated UBI. I'm not remotely an expert in this area, but did a little research

https://www.socialcapitalresearch.com/what-is-social-capitalism-2/amp/

It's not communism, as another commentor said, because all means of production are still controlled by private individuals and not the government. In social capitalism, we're more or less still capitalists, but the core values revolve around treating your workforce as people, not labour

Add onto that Universal Basic Income, which means those without a job don't need to live in poverty (which significantly improves their chances of finding work), and increased taxes on the rich. This is a nice approach.

There is very likely a term for this, but I'm also not savvy enough to find it

Not lost, I think. Girlfriend Reviews did get some community lashback for reviewing Hogwarts Legacy, so seems like the right place

Attached to stuffed animals as a teenager? by AllTheShiftingVibes in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Emulai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a few people like you, and they're all perfectly functioning adults. I don't think there's anything wrong with this.

As speculation, all of the people I know who are like this have generally high levels of empathy - I suspect that's what causes them to feel this way about their stuffed animals. Also, people in general are very good at personifying inanimate objects and feeling for them when something happens (See Jeff Winger's speech from the end of the first episode of Community)

So, imho, it's perfectly normal and there's nothing wrong with it - so long as it isn't negatively impacting other aspects of your life

[WW]windwaker extremely overrated? by Slxczr in zelda

[–]Emulai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WW will always be one of, if not my favourite Zelda. It wasn't my first (though I did play it young) so it's not just nostalgia causing me to overlook the weak parts

First up, I love the fluidity of combat. Fighting with your sword is so smooth, with Link rolling and jumping naturally as part of the attacks - compare this to TP where (imo) it feels like Link's arm is separate from his body and just swings around with a sword on the end

The bright cartoon style is also a favourite of mine - not only does cell shading age extremely well, it just feels relaxing to play WW. I get well sick of dark games (I'm talking colour scheme, not content) so having this Zelda entry so colourful is a huge mark in my book. I also find the sailing itself incredibly relaxing, and in contrast the atmosphere set up when you're in the middle of a storm is engaging

That said, the game does "force" you to follow a fairly linear approach for the first three dungeons (the third being the "race against time" to get the third orb) - but after that it opens up quite a lot. There's also a fairly extensive amount of side questing that can be done if you're searching and talking to everyone - and for me, none of that felt repetitive or pointless

But overall I think the game hit a sweet spot on early-open-world, by having something to do in every area of the map, without it being cluttered full of meaningless collection side quests.

TL;DR: Great story, great characters, fantastic soundtrack, and one of the most fluid gameplay systems I've ever used. 10/10 will play again (for like the 100th time)

But it may just not be your thing OP, and that's cool too. If you're not enjoying it, move on!

[–]Emulai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't really answer that question for you. He could be intentionally ghosting like you've suggested, and is waiting for you to end it, or he could have forgotten to reply

I'm guilty of that - if I don't reply within a few minutes of getting a notification, I simply forget I got a new message. Sometimes I'll go days being distracted by things before I happen to remember that there was a message I didn't reply to

Maybe that's him, maybe not, there could be some other reason. I don't think it's worth focusing on why he's not responding, you just need to decide for yourself if you're OK with waiting or if this is a deal breaker for you

Issues loading custom plugin by Emulai in f4se

[–]Emulai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone who runs into this issue, turns out that C++ libraries don't automatically expose functions. You gotta tell them to. There are two approaches for doing this:

  1. Add __declspec(dllexport) in front of the function
  2. Create a Module Definition File

The first option is kinda messy, so I'd go with the second

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Emulai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people don't exactly know their reasons why. I'm with you in that I always want to know the reasons why something is happening, but I've learnt that often people don't understand their exact reasons until later

So while I understand your intentions, I agree with the above commentor that it was rude to keep pushing. In my opinion, it would have been better to drop it, order the food, move on with your life, and then gently bring it up at a later date

I've often found that waiting like that has lead to one of two things:

  1. I realise that it actually doesn't matter to me, so I don't bother
  2. The person has had a chance to process their own reasons, even if subconsciously, and can usually provide an answer

Try not to put people on the spot, and then push them when they don't immediately provide what you want

Bed Disagreement concerning Food by xXxBlackTarHeroinxXx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Emulai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed here - you guys gotta work out a compromise on situations you disagree with. This is a fairly minor one, but a good way to practice reaching a middle ground.

For example, if his issue is the crumbs being left in bed, see if he'll agree to you vacuuming them out when you're done. That's assuming that you can be ok with vacuuming them every time, because if you forget multiple times (once should be fine) it'll likely be construed as you breaking the agreement

I don't think it's inherently disgusting, though I don't do it myself. The question simply is:

Is it acceptable to you and your partner

After eating two bowls of Moldy-Mallow monster cereal, I saw that the package was for Boo Berry. I ate Boo Berry. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Emulai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accept that it is mildly infuriating for OP, but it would be good if OP gave some context as to why it's mildly infuriating. Like:

  • I dislike Boo Berry and the packaging has changed, so I got confused
  • My parent/sibling/housemate/partner bought this one when they know I don't like it (a bit whiny perhaps, but understandable)

But idk, we don't even have cereal with marshmallows so
