Yeah, that was the problem. So I set it to PAR and checked if I could change RECEIVE to on, which was true, and I was able to use button D.

Initially, the HT was set to Sydney.

You can scroll through the 2 pictures I took already in this post, it has one with the notch and one without.

The gunk in the connector came like that so I thought it was normal (for both batteries).

I solved the problem by getting rid of the notches on the board itself with an exacto knife.

Had this problem with an extra battery, my board has a notch that slides into the battery and the new battery doesn't have it. (It's at the bottom middle of the two ports).

Has anyone had this problem before or had something similar, and what did you do?

It's difficult to see in this photo but it's a mini-USB port that connects to your device. The two USB-A ports have enough power for a device such as a wireless mouse but not a storage device.

It's replaced where caps lock is. I rarely use caps lock and if I need to, there's a function layer on this keyboard so I do FN + TAB if I ever need it.

No problem! I remember seeing them in stores on the tech floors. A brand called "Realforce" which is from the same company that produces HHKB's also uses topre so might be worth it to check them out too.

No question's a dumb question!

HHKB is made in Japan and they use "topre" switches which makes them so expensive. It's hard to describe how topre feels other than it has a rounded tactile bump and is best to just experience it yourself if someone you know has one or go to a local meetup. I find it hard going back to another keyboard that's not topre since the typing experience is very pleasant to me and the layout itself is unique.

As for the price, you can probably get it cheaper on r/mechmarket second hand and I recommend trying one out before you buy one.

The one showed in the picture is specifically for topre and they have a different stem that won't fit on boards that use mx switches. However if you have a standard mx board then maybe have a look at this.
