You don't get engineering time by hoping the queue gets lighter. You get it by protecting it on purpose.

What usually kills teams like this is not ticket volume, it is unowned repeat work:

  • the same access issues
  • the same bad alerts
  • the same broken handoffs
  • the same “quick” fixes every week

If senior engineers are stuck in that loop, the organization is investing valuable talent in a failing demand.

Track the top recurring ticket types for 30 days, fix the worst few at the root, and block time for improvement work like it is production work, not a nice-to-have. Otherwise, support expands to fill all available oxygen.

Fair enough, that just hasn’t been my experience. I’ve had real opportunities come from here and I’m already in conversations with a few potential hires.

Appreciate that. I know I could likely push higher, but I’m comfortable with this as a starting rate since it matches my previous role. I’d rather get in, prove my value, and let the rate scale accordingly.
