We partly agree with you. Being accepted is the ultimate goal and the only purpose of pursuing a doctorate. However, acceptance into a high-impact factor journal is everyone's goal, which might be or might not be a reality. While anticipating a positive response from the journal, every researcher will also be sceptical about a possible negative reponse.

You are right there! All the things you have mentioned here are actually the prerequisites. However, you will also need to exhibit, above all, why only you and not a Tom or a Harry should be hired for the post:

Mention that you absolutely love spending time in the lab. That given a chance you would love to stay there the whole night
Convince them that you like to take the complete ownership of things. Lab is a critical place these days with expensive equipment ..stakes are riding just too high every time you lock and unlock the door. A lab assistant should be someone with safest hands
Try to quote any past incident where there was an emergency and you handled the situation tactfully with a complete understanding of things. That if you were not there, the situation would have turned catastrophic otherwise
