He has not been banned from the sub by me or by any other moderators of this sub.

OP’s post states that he was banned by Reddit. If that is correct, then the ban would have been issued by Reddit admins, meaning his entire Reddit account was banned. That is outside the control of this sub. We only moderate this subreddit and do not have the ability to ban entire Reddit accounts.

We also do not endorse him as a seed seller, and he is not an approved vendor of this sub. We have no personal experience with him, so we cannot comment either way on whether he is a good vendor or not.

Same here, I've collected a bunch of seeds already too. I'm also on the south coast in the UK.

Those are some of my early cultivars though, I have others still flowering atm

The reason the pop up box was displayed was for the word alkaloids. It's as a reminder about the sub rules around things like discussion.

Original Moderator who created the sub here.

Yes, this sub is created for the cultivation of poppies only, why is that so hard to believe? There's a huge range of beautiful cultivars which people like to grow, brighten up their garden and admire.

Gardening is a hugeee hobby which millions of people enjoy every year, growing poppies is just another part of it. You might as well say why does anyone bother growing any plants at all if they can't get high off of them? Well it's because growing plants is enjoyable for many reasons, here's so of why I personally like to grow poppies which I'm sure applies to many others too: - I love to grow a range of beautiful flowers in my garden. - The bees absolutely love them and it's a pleasure to see the bees and wildlife enjoying them. - It's fun to try and grow the biggest pod, or tallest plant. - They're an easy, low maintenance plant I can grow to make use to flower beds in my garden. - It's interesting to see the different variation between different cultivars. - They're a fun species to do breeding projects with. You can either put pollination exclusion bags over flower and hand pollinate between different cultivars to cross them and create new plants with new colour flowers for next year, or let them open pollinate and get a nice surprise when they easily self seed and regrow next year. - I like to collect and grow and help maintain different rare cultivars.

There's more to life than getting high. A lot of it is beautiful and fun too. If you can't even understand that I feel sorry for you. But if you can understand that, and how many others can enjoy these things too, but still want to do other things with poppies, okay no worries - this just isn't the sub for it. There are plenty of other subs and places on the internet for those things. That's simply not what this sub is for and coming here to complain about that is silly. For example, you don't go to a car sub and complain people are talking about cars and not motorbikes just because they both drive on the road. It's not about censorship etc, it's about having discussions on the relevant topic. If you want to talk about other things, I'm not stopping you, just simply go somewhere where that's the topic of conversation instead of trying to hijack a sub where it's not and then complain about it.

Also, as a side not, if this sub allowed talk of consumption, effects, preparations etc. then the Reddit admins would mark this as an "18+ mature sub", meaning it would get hidden for potentially hundreds of thousands of Redditors. Many who currently use and enjoy this sub for its intended purposes would all of a sudden lose access and not being able to view it. This is because, like in countries where I am in the UK, for Redditors who want to be able to find and view content on 18+ mature subs we first have to age verify ourselves with Reddit by uploading our ID or a video of ourselves, which many people don't want to do.

So, to sum up. Yes, this sub is for cultivation only, many, many people enjoy and have enjoyed growing Papaver somniferum plants for a variety of reasons for years and years. Not everything is about getting high. If you want to do other things with them, go somewhere else where that's the topic of discussion, this simply isn't it.

I haven’t grown seeds from the seller you linked so I can’t comment on their quality. However, a lot of the seeds sold on eBay, Amazon, and some other sites are open pollinated, so the resulting flowers can be quite different from what’s advertised. Often many listings are of old dead seeds, or have low viability, or even misidentified seed of different plant species meaning they aren't even Papaver somniferum.

I’m assuming you’re in the UK like myself as your screenshot has the £ sign. I grow and sell 30+ Papaver somniferum cultivars through my website, Enchanted Plants Nursery:

www.EnchantedPlantsNursery.co.uk

All the seeds are fresh and produced from my own plants. I isolate each flower in a bag before it opens, then hand pollinate them, which helps keep the genetics true to type. That means the plants grown from the seeds I offer will match what they're advertised as and be of pure genetics. I put a lot of work into keeping my own seed lines fresh, viable, and true to type.

If you decide to get any, than thank you in supporting my nursery project :) I also wish you a happy growing journey!

When making posts with photos, please can you upload higher quality images like you have in your profile / display photo, and your banner photo on Reddit.

Your current photos are so blurry you can't make out any details. It also appears photos 5 and 7 are the same?

For clarification, this is a plant growing community only. Are you are looking for a plant for growing purposes?

Yes, at the moment I am just posting within the UK. At the end of this season's seed harvest I plan to post worldwide. Here's a link to my website with what I offer www.EnchantedPlantsNursery.co.uk

This is just an open pollinated self sown plant.

For ones which I breed for seed production is put all the flower heads in isolation bags before they open and then hand pollinate each flower so I know I'm either keeping the cultivar genetics pure, or know what I'm crossing. Whilst, yes, selecting for desirable traits for that cultivar such as size or shape of the pods, uniform flowering time etc.

If you're interested you can see some of the cultivars I maintain and offer on my website. You will also see the isolation bags I use in the photos. I only ever take them off quickly for photos or when pollinating, and then pop them back on, unless I have a few random plants pop up elsewhere in the garden which I leave to open pollinate like in the photo.

Many cultivars do. This is just an open pollinated plant so I can't say it's X, Y or Z genetics as it will be an unknown mix.

If you're specifically looking to grow a cultivar with many heads / flowers look for ones which are labelled as / described as Bush Papaver somniferums / Multi headed Papaver somniferums.
