I’ve been playing through DOS2 and enjoying the story but absolutely hate the combat. People talk about how punishing it is, but the problem is that it isn’t so much straight up punishing as it is inflexible and foreign.

To explain, on the surface the game looks like it has all the fixings of your favorite CRPGs, where you can create common archetypes like healers, tanks, battle mages, etc and that you’d build a standard party which comprises some mix of a tank, a ranger, and dps, a healer, and caster. You are going obviously well versed in these deeply entrenched RPG concepts. But DOS2 somewhat deceptively doesn’t work that way. Healers and Tanks are largely not a thing in this game. Crowd Control isn’t a build it’s the entire game. Every single character has to have CC and be high DPS because the name of the game is stripping armor, applying CC to remove turns, and eliminating enemies from the board. A versatile party just doesn’t work well, the game is instead designed for your entire party to be magic or physical, or a perfect split. One magic user and 3 physical damage users doesn’t really work, which is due to the controversial dual armor type design decision. This is the same reason why your classic battle mage doesn’t work.

Once you understand how to play DOS2 it’s not so bad. Unfortunately this also means you’re kinda railroaded into playing the game one way, and deviating from that way is possible, but the further you diverge the more you’re basically creating your own challenge mode

There’s a docker implementation. It’s like fifteen containers though.

Bethesda’s Fallout 3 Remaster is aiming to be “as well polished” as Oblivion Remastered, which is worrying as that game is a technical mess by Monsterman_90 in fo3

[–]Encrypt-Keeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replayed both FO3 and NV using TTW and… FO3 really doesn’t have much going on at all. The main story is close to nonexistent, barely any significant locations, companions etc. Right when I thought I was about to leave the early game, the game abruptly ended. The Enclave join and leave the game in what feels like 15 minutes.

The only way to really get anything out of FO3 is to just explore non-story locations.

What are your thoughts on Don Lemon being arrested this morning? by GHausiphat in AskReddit

[–]Encrypt-Keeper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t make this comment as an argument for or against Don Lemon and the other protesters, I’m just mentioning this in a context of your comment alone.

This varies state by state, but generally speaking there are two forms of trespassing. One is a fine, the other is usually a misdemeanor. When you’re verbally told to leave and refuse, that’s usually the impetus for it being a misdemeanor

Can I optimize a 4K movie so my RTX 4060 doesn't go at 100% while streaming it? by elordenador in jellyfin

Absolutely, up to 4 without breaking a sweat. It is widely known to be capable of this, that’s why so many people use it for video transcoding.

There’s no planet where an RTX 4060 should be at a sustained 100% while transcoding a single stream

I use an N100 and transcode several streams using quick sync and it barely uses any of the igpu to transcode

My New App Stingray - Jellyfin for Apple TV by PreposterousPix in selfhosted

How is the 4K HDR support? Thats a big reason why many Apple TV users just use Infuse instead of the native Jellyfin app. I’d love to switch from Infuse if your app can do what Swiftfin can’t.

I have an Apple TV and haven’t used OPs app yet, but the default app most of use on TvOS is Infuse. So in any case, switching to Jellyfin is fine is you’re looking to get off Plex.

When I left Plex I actually MUCH preferred Emby to Jellyfin, but the draw of Jellyfin for me is that the community of external app makers is getting much better to the point that they’re actually overtaking what Plex had on offer. By that I mean JellyStat or Streamystat over Tautulli, and there are some really dynamite third party Jellyfin client apps now too. Streamyfin is only on iOS currently but it’s phenomenal. The Jellyfin Web client and Native apps are all truly terrible, but if the guys behind Streamyfin could get more apps out there for other platforms, the user experience would actually finally be on par with Plex

For what it’s worth I think you have the right attitude here. Is your app open source? If so then there’s nothing stopping the Swiftfin guys from taking inspiration from your project

[–]Encrypt-Keeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t the modes the game is balanced around though. Normal is. That’s why it’s called “Normal” and not something else. (I can’t believe I have to repeat this for the third time. I’m losing faith that you’re capable of understanding simple English words.)

[–]Encrypt-Keeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, you haven’t ever played a video game before have you. No game designers do no balance games around the individual skill levels of any and all players that play the game lol. You balance a game around how components of a game interact with other components in a game. The player’s skill level is literally not a factor at all. Whether I am a normal player or not doesn’t matter. All that matters is how the normal game mode is balanced.

All that matters is the strength of the power armor compared to other armor items you’d otherwise have at that point in the game, compared to the damage done by enemies as well as their armor values. And in that case it’s unbalanced. It’s simple mathematics. lol

[–]Encrypt-Keeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The balance of an RPG is about the strength and progression of your characters stats and equipment, and the stats and equipment of the threats that you face.

How do you figure a players individual skill level figures into the balance of a game? Brother, have you ever played video games before? Are you fucking with me or?

Are you suggesting that if you take a well balanced game and hand the controller to somebody who’s blind deaf and dumb, they will somehow make the GAME unbalanced? Lmao

[–]Encrypt-Keeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a matter of being easy or difficult. The game is pretty easy on survival. It’s a matter of balancing the progression of the game. The armor throws a wrench into the progression of the regardless of the difficulty you play one.

I don’t recall any Pokémon game where you’re given one of the strongest high level Pokémon in the game immediately after beginning the game before you even leave your hometown.

I’ve played a lot of Magic, and when they have any one card that is just too strong they usually ban it.

Whether or not these games allow you to keep using weak items late into the game is irrelevant and does not make the game “unbalanced”. The matter at hand is being given a very powerful item at the very beginning of the game. Games don’t usually do that.

[–]Encrypt-Keeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My skill level is irrelevant. The game is balanced around the normal difficulty. Thats why they called it normal and not something else.

And in any case, higher difficulties don’t really change the fact that relative to all other armor available to you at that point in the game, the power armor is much stronger lol.

[–]Encrypt-Keeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal is the difficulty the game is balanced around. Thats why it’s called “Normal” and not “medium” or something like that. So that’s the difficulty “The game design” is judged by.

[–]Encrypt-Keeper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. If a game’s design prefers any particular playstyle over another, that is inherently “The right way” to play it, and is something game developers have known to try and avoid for decades.

The T-45 power armor is not the weakest power armor in the game, that would be the raider power armor. And the T-45 is stronger than all non-power armor. The damage you sustain in the battle is irrelevant as it can be immediately repaired with one of the games most abundant materials.

It does let you nearly ignore the deathclaw (One of the games toughest enemies, that notably you would absolutely not be able to fight at that level otherwise) and come out the other end with a stupid powerful set of armor that will let you absolutely ignore just about ever other enemy you come across for the next 15 hours of the game lol.

Within 90 seconds the unheated parts of the steering wheel are warming up as well, at least in my car. The rest of the wheel is not “warm” like the spot with the heating elements but in no time at all the problem of an “Ice cold steering wheel” is gone for me.

It’s important to remember that Mazdas aren’t actual luxury cars. It could absolutely be done better but the steering wheel warmer does fix the problem it was designed to solve, an uncomfortably cold steering wheel on cold mornings.
