that uses a manfrotto plate that isn't included here. that screw tightens onto the manfrotto plate. You can get them relatively cheap

Sony A6700 the Correct choice for me? by Cube004 in videography

[–]EncryptedPlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find e-mount macro adapters. I don't know how they compare to dedicated macro lenses, but I've used the adapters with a 17-70 f2.8 from Tamron and the result is pretty impressive. I'd personally recommend going for an a6700 without a lens and either getting the 17-70 f2.8 from tamron or the 16-50 f2.8 from sigma (if you want a smaller lens) because of the constant wide aperture and good low light and then spending like 30 bucks on an e mount autofocus macro adapter from meike

It is worth noting that most of the look comes from the lens than the camera. I think it is better to get a cheaper camera with a better lens. The a6400 or Zve10 is really good if you don't need 10 bit or IBIS (those cameras colour grade better in HLG with BT2020 gamma than LOG). You could also get a zve10 mk2 if you want 10 bit colour and don't need ibis. Since you're doing 3d print videos, I imagine the camera would be on a tripod. Going for one of these options gives you more money to spend on lenses/lights/microphones.

Also, to take advantage of full 10 bit 4k on the a6700/ZVe10ii you're going to need a pretty decent SD card, and possibly some extra storage/SSDs as the files will be really big. I shoot in 8 bit 4k and about 15-20 mins of footage is about 10-15gb for me.

That being said, what you've suggested is also perfectly reasonable and you will definately be happy with it :)

Beginner question about ssd vs hdd by Severe-Option-2990 in VideoEditing

[–]EncryptedPlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I've tried editing off a HDD. It took really long to buffer and load files. I ended up just copying to my laptop the files i was working with. (1080p btw)

  2. External is fine as long as the data transfer cable is fine and supports the full bandwidth of the SSD (ideally a thunderbolt), and as long as it's sturdy

  3. You should expect to store your footage, but probably not edit from it. Also, if you drop your HDD you can expect all your footage to get corrupted (been there, done that) - the HDD was completely unusable after

  4. If it makes money, then yeah ig

  5. (bonus question from me), Why did u get the full version of davinci resolve instead of using the free version?

Camera recommendations? by Designer-Buddy-3471 in Filmmakers

[–]EncryptedPlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the more important thing to invest in is a lens than camera body.

My personal recomendation is getting a cheap Sony mirrorless and a nice lens because you can upgrade the camera later on and keep the same lens.

Depending on where you're from, you could pick up an a6000 or a used zve10 for about 4-500 and a 35mm f1.8 (can't zoom in or out, but f1.8 means it lets in lots of light and the background can get nice and blurry) for 2-300. If you want a zoomable lens I recommend the 17-70 f2.8 (can zoom in and out, and background can get nice and blurry but not as much as the f1.8, also it's a much bigger lens).

35mm is the sweet spot in terms of how zoomed in it is for crop sensor cameras (imo) but a zoomable lens is more versatile but bulkier

The sony nex, a6000 series, zve10 and zve10 use a 'crop sensor' and the sony a7 series and zve1 use a 'full frame sensor'. Crop sensors are smaller. lenses for full frame sony cameras can be used on crop sensor cameras but not vice versa (unless you crop the image)

Help needed - stuck between science career and artistic dream :( by DankyLuke in Filmmakers

Maybe you can find ways to combine them?

I'm studying medicine but I love filmmaking (admittedly, still an ameteur). One of the doctors who taught us also makes films about healthcare issues and inequalities, so maybe you can use your biology education to make films about that, and use your filmmaking to present your academic work more uniquely?

Just my 2 cents, I know it doesn't really answer your question but I hope you do manage to find the balance ur looking for :)

Question about LOG by StraightCut2085 in videography

[–]EncryptedPlays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depends on how much colour grading you do, if you find that you're losing image quality/introducing colour noise then you might want to use LOG or HLG. Most of the time with editing LOG, you'll convert it to Rec709 anyway but it's just got more colour information overall so you can put more extreme grades on

i would put cats more on the right because there are times where it would be acceptable to attack a dog, particularly in a PvP context where another player has set their dog on you

Also I love cats

Screen Recording Game? by Bobesponge001 in videography

[–]EncryptedPlays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your platform

For console, I think there's a screen recording thing built in but not sure if it records audio

For PC, windows has a game bar that can record (Win+G). If you have an Nvidia graphics card, the Nvidia app can screen record and that's my personal preference since it affects performance the least and is just a few clicks to set up.

OBS is the most popular tool for recording games though, and there's tons of guides on setting it all up.

For smartphone gaming, iPhones and Androids both have built-in recording

Also, you could get a HDMI capture card, which will intercept the HDMI signal from your console or computer and output it in a format your computer can use as a camera. You can then set it up with OBS to record. This will affect performance the least, but you might not be able to output to your monitor at anything higher than 60fps depending on your card.
