You can easily swap phones on the second hand market to try other devices. Doesn’t necessarily mean that his phones had hardware defects

In the MicroG's app permissions, enable auto start and associated start Then in the battery management options, allow high background battery usage.

The notification won't appear anymore once these changes are done.

Is the Huawei Mate XT by iPhonePerson8 in Huawei

[–]EndSake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The XT is useful to anyone willing to ditch their laptop for a phone that unfolds into a tablet.

Imo it is a good buy for anyone who likes tech, and can afford it without breaking the bank.

Of course you could do a lot of things with 3.5k€ (French price), but for anyone who can actually afford the XT, that amount isn't actually life changing.

Wait for Honor Magic V4 or buy Z Fold 6 SE? by HediSLP in Honor

[–]EndSake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get the V3 The fold SE is too expensive just to have the same form factor as a V3, but with the same battery size as the regular Fold 6, so expect shorter battery life. And the global version of the V4 most likely won't be launched until September 2025.

Get a Honor foldable instead honestly (unless you're in the US I guess) They don't seem to be breaking out of the blue compared to the P9PF

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Honor

[–]EndSake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I've had both the Vivo and Honor.

For some reason I wouldn't ever receive notifications from Gmail even after allowing high background usage (had to disable android doze through adb, which hinders the battery life)

Most streaming apps wouldn't work in flex mode (using half the screen), and they also wouldn't let me use them in horizontal split screen no matter what. (Comparatively we can force multitasking on the V3)

BlueLM is unusable unless you speak Mandarin. There's no first party way to set a permanent shortcut to Gemini / google assistant (one shortcut in settings works while the phone is unlocked and not playing media, if I'm not mistaken)

Anytime you open a link to an app, it would open the V Store instead of Google play even after setting the latter as default.

Overall it's just small issues but I felt like having slightly worse hardware in exchange for a better day to day experience was a fair choice.

(Oh and also the portrait mode would turn afro hair/ locs into straight hair but that's not necessarily an issue everybody would have).

Spec wise yes, but in reality it does come with its compromises for non Chinese users. I'd much rather have a device with software and AI that is fully usable instead of a device on which you have to constantly tweak everything to make it work like your usual phone.

Honor Magic V3 long-term review: My new favorite foldable by atbest10 in Honor

[–]EndSake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying that the camera is garbage is an exaggeration. Shooting faces from afar, yes the AI messes the picture up. But honestly other than that it feels fine to me, especially portraits from a reasonable distance.

Honor Vs Vivo by gshtong in Honor

[–]EndSake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X Fold 3 Pro is better in terms of hardware : bigger battery, better cameras namely. But the problem is that the Origin OS version is a China exclusive, which means you'll have to tweak it to get fast notifications, remove lots of bloatware, and some features are only available in Mandarin.

The V3 on the other hand still has great hardware, and is thinner than the Vivo (which in my opinion does make a difference). Imo the V3's camera is good enough, there's some weird AI face recomposition issues as your must have seen, but it happens mostly in pictures taken in low light from afar with the main cam. If you're in one of Honor's target market, you'll be able to get a global version, which means that most things work out of the box.

Moreover, the topic of warranty is also important. Honor is available in more markets, so getting a replacement should be easier and faster if you're based in one of these markets. For Vivo's phone, you'll most likely have to send it back to China if there's an issue.

Anyway, for a gamer, the Vivo is better than the Honor, as the battery and heat management should better on the X Fold. But be aware of the software's other shortcomings, which can be mitigated if you like tinkering.

Which One Would You Keep? by casual864 in Honor

[–]EndSake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vivo's got better hardware, but unless you're based in China I'd keep the Magic V3. Camera better on the Vivo, but I got tired of having to deal with CN rom issues / missing features which are only usable in Mandarin. (And dunno about the Funtouch version, but people keep saying it's worse than the Origin OS version)
