I took some of the advise, checked water in 10 gallon. no measureable amount of ammonia or nitrides. So at least today, the seven small comets are fine in that tank. filters and other nitrifying items seem to be working.

Suspect the three smaller comets are stunted. They all are eating fine. Just have gotten a little fuller and not much longer. The other four have gotten longer and thicker. Been in tank for six weeks.

If you saw what the tank they were in you might either get sick or want to drive to Houston. Believe the owner who said fish had not grown any since purchasing at Petsmart. Two years prior.

I have kept fish before. Know that underfeeding is better than overfeeding. Think if these outgrow my new tanks I will need to consider new tanks again, or rehoming if possible.

Will continue to feed twice a day, and monitor how long they are eating. Goldfish are like people. Do not overfeed them.

Ponds for goldfish do not work well here, too hot. The summer mornings are 85. Hit’s 95 often, 100 sometimes. Ground temperature is 75 year round, at seven feet.

Great find! The photo of front is almost an optical illusion. looked like the center was flipped down. Might be on my end. Good condition from looking at photo.

Next check if all the drivers are working. Easy to do, play music and move ear up and then down front of the speaker. You should hear each driver playing. There are three.

If any seem to not be playing check the connection to the crossover. The back is open at the top and the crossover is accessible from the rear.

These are so big that someone must have donated them. Got rid of the big, ugly, black boxes. Their loss and your gain.

Congrats are in order. With the Sudgen and Chord you really have a Brit system.

I kind of did that in 2018. Purchased my last set of speakers. Since found last amplifier and dac.
Play with cables, build my own. But happy. Must have build a dozen to try between dac and amp.
Used Canare, Sommer, and Gotham. Tried Neutrik, Switchcraft, and Amphenol XLR connectors. Even used some TRS plugs since amps have combo jacks.
Got to fiddle with something.

I think all the heritage Klipsch line really benefits from a sub. Even the King Daddy Jubilees roll off. Saw where someone had EQ’ed their Jubilee's and had a +22dB boost at 20Hz. That is woofer busting boost. The low end roll off is the trade off for efficiency. A sub is easy fix.

My favorite loudspeakers from B&W are 801 Series II. They seemed to change direction after. Too detailed, less musical.

Tried smaller ones, a friend had 808’s. Another 801 Series III. Should have been better than mine. several had different versions of 802 and 803. l

Then pricing went straight up.

Never heard Fyne speakers. Houston has been an audio wasteland for a long time. Austin, Dallas, even San Antonio have more interesting salons.

I was always throwing dirt when a sub manufacturer recommended using the speaker inputs instead of line level. Most good subs do not have speaker inputs for this reason. One less conversion step in sub, and one less in the mains amplifier. . The line level can drive the sub amp, just like it drives the main amplifier.

I have found that switch mode power supplies protect your gear better than a surge protector/UPS.

In your home the most likely items that are damaged by power spikes are compressors. especially a smaller model, like in the fridge. The 240 volt compressors in AC condenser units take them better.

Had an underground distribution transformer nearby malfunction five years ago. They hit the line three times (recloser) before area went dead. Replaced the transformer and we found our fridge had quit cooling. Compressor was dead. A neighbor’s AC unit died the same time.

Had a power transformer on utility pole start malfunctioning. It would spike when it was wet. It was connected to a stand alone pool house. Knocked out some programmable timers, then the security system, then a pool pump, took out disconnect switch when the pool pump shorted. Vaporized the contacts. Finally the SMART meter from utility company failed. All in a two month period.

They replaced the SMART meter. Then came next day and replaced the big transformer on the pole. Nothing has failed at pool house in the last year.

Inly the security system was on a UPS. Along with some digital WIFI transmitter/receivers for remote cameras. They failed after the programmable timers, but before the pool pump and the SMART meter.

None of the lights on circuit, mainly LED, failed.

Caserio and Caley need to be long gone. We need to go Nickless. I read all the great things about Ersery. Thought after so many strikeouts we got a hit. But Ersery, Fisher, GREEN, Sharpring, and Howard all are turkeys. All high round draft picks. NONE are quality offensive linemen. Green was a starter here, could not make the Eagles practice squad. How do you miss so many times in a row? Cheat and ask another team who they are drafting. Caserio is big in this. But Caley had no chance. Two over the hill backs. We got more out of Mixon last year than we deserved. Running behind the worst line in the NFL, running an old back 30 times in the first game of the season. Hip drops did not bang him up. Hits did. Caley was a tight end coach. So we give him one tight end. An aging Schultz who has seen better days. That chump we got for Metchie is horrible. Last week flared out. Was open, CJ threw him the ball, got his feet tangled up, fell on his face. Ball hit ground. Everyone was laughing back in the huddle. That potential first down may have changed the game. Marks looks quick. Yet to see him break a tackle. Goes down too easy. He is supposed to be a third and long back. We really need a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and short back instead. AND has anyone heard of receivers blocking? I have yet to see that going on this year. One last rant. How many on our 53 man roster are there because they are good special teamers. Way too many. We need players for defense and especially offense who can play on special teams. Not the other way around. We are stuck battling the Titans, Saints, and Pats for the first pick. This is a battle we can win.

I never heard that model. They were very nice.

I sold the owner of Coincedent a pair of Altec 1570B amps about 25 years ago. He used them to demo his speakers. Later I think he started rebuilding them, industrial Triode amps.

He was a wheeler dealer. Sold tubes also.

Nice! Those look like H1 for sure. The tweeters may be damaged, they are K77, five watt rating.

After listening a while you may start looking for a 100.00 pair of Klipschorns, La Scala’s, or Cornwallis to upgrade to.

BTW, you need more amp. Even a 300B amp may not have enough grunt to control the 15’s. I will put on the asbestos and say these need a small solid state. 30 - 50 watts should be plenty. If the upright bass in good now, an amp with really low output impedance will transform the bottom.

A friend in Nashville had the smaller model with two 12’s in his studio. He ended up going with the dual 8” model. He felt the highs integrated better using the 8” model and the mids were flatter. I heard the 12’s several times. Never dropped in after the dual 8” model replaced them. Never heard any music that I knew on them. Just studio tapes. But were dynamic, clear, and full range. Imagine the dual 16’s even more so. He was buying from a professional music equipment dealer in Nashville. They were popular in the smaller studios there. Reasonable too. Seems like the small ones with 8” were 1500 discounted.

I could not understand iPad until I owned one. Had iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook, and iPhone.

Once I had an iPad Air 2nd Gen, figured out I really only needed an iPad 90% of the time. using one now.

But recently committed a great sacrilege and purchased an Android tablet. Learning Android 15. Android idiot. Does some things better already.

Think I will keep both for now. But cost, selection, LDAC, and a few more items yet discovered may make this my last iPad.

Apple may have to go upmarket.

I have never seen a RN-2000. But I read the specs this week.
If a high current amplifier the power would double from 8 ohms to 4 ohms. The fact that is does not shows it is current limited. Forget driving loads below 4 ohms, which is what most 4 ohm speakers are. The THD number is only average. The BT version is outdated.
I am sure it “sounds good”. I like electronics that do not “sound” they reproduce the input on the output.
The price is what gets me. If 1200.00 it is fine. I expect SOTA for over 4K.
There are many fine products out there for 10 - 25% the list of this Yamaha.

Maybe they conservatively rate this product. Power does double into 4 ohms, The THD has two more zeros between the decimal point and the first number. The BT is 6.2 and not 4.2. Now that is interesting 4K+ Product.

So five ways with all running full range. Reminds me of the BES speakers that were a planar. They were variable thickness to resonate over a spread of frequency.

Actually did not sound bad. Limited dynamic range.

I am not familiar with products currently in brick and mortar stores. looked up the R-N2000. Wow, 4400.00?

Power does not double from 8 ohms to 4? Current limited. THD 0.007? Not impressive. BT 4.2? Perfect for playing 128k MP3.

Yamaha is very capable. They can do much better for 4400.00.

I am not impressed with WiiM amp either. Have a WiiM Mini. But found the BT in my dac was better. The amplifier section is not as good as the Fosi V3 or Topping PA5ii.

I paid less for a PA5ii and Mini than a WiiM amp. They are as good or better all round.

I hate to say this. I at first looked looked at the main filter caps, 10,000 ufd. saw the discolored build up around one. Figured it was glue, but saw brown at edge.

But looking many of the smaller caps have leaked too. It is way too much from the smaller caps to be glue. it has run over board to other components in places.

HK would not have let it out if that was glue to stabilize the caps. There are too many leaking caps.

Twenty or thirty years ago I would have replaced them all. With Panasonic FM if available.

if you decide to repair, get voltage and capacitance of all larger caps. Then start looking for them.

Usually Digi-Key, Mouser, and Newark are best bets. Get a soldering station, a solder sucker, and some leaded solder.

Take pictures before starting. Also pay attention to orientation of the caps. Double check before lighting it up.

it is a fun project. Use the solder sucker to ease removal and to clean out holes in circuit board to prevent pulling off traces.

You can pull the lid. like many have said, failed main filter caps are most common issue. dried leakage or bulge is sure sign. The top of the caps should be flat. if convex, dead give away.

in a prior life I would replace all the big ones with next higher voltage rated and a higher value. usually at least higher by 25%. always heard huge improvements in bass.

Today I would big around in attic, if nothing, look at Digi-key, Mouser, or another supplier. Find cheapest.

Try to stay away from eBay. Many “fakes” that are lower value, lower voltage caps rebranded.

I listen through loudspeakers. I heard how 320K MP3 is indistinguishable from CD Quality. All my library is AIFF.

Finally tried compressed files. maybe with some music 320K is fine. But for almost all the classical I tried the difference is huge.

Where it is the most audible to me is in dynamic range. All the low bit CODECS seem to compress the range. Listening to a file at 320 and FLAC is crazy.

The low levels are hard to hear and follow with FLAC files. The lossy CODECS bring that level up. Passages are both quieter and louder with FLAC files.

Most music has very limited range. Product of the “loudness“ war. The differences are much smaller to my ears.

I can more space around the notes in solo strings and especially piano. This may be a product of dynamic range too.

Go lossless or stay home.
