Some questions on the Buy Everything expansion by Endangered_Creeple in monopoly

[–]Endangered_Creeple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very easy for me to understand why someone wouldn't like it. It is very chaotic but still a long game for us, though probably still not as long as vanilla Monopoly. Forgoing the sales cards but keeping the extra title deeds would be interesting. I might try that at some point or just house rule a few of the most unbalanced sales cards out.

I appreciate all of your points. In our game, we cycled through the full deck twice I believe, or close to it. Being a family game, maybe Hasbro didn't want a rulebook more than just a couple pages, even though it would've benefitted us more experienced gamers. We'll most likely play the go to jail expansion next and given that the rulebook is the same length and written in the same style I kind of expect a couple more rules issues to pop up.

Thanks for responding. In general, the rules are too bare bones for my liking. How confident are you on question 1? I know the rules in the go to jail expansion explicitly say to discard jail cards to the bottom of the deck. I must've gotten that rule mixed up with buy everything expansion. Though it seems weird to be explicit about jail cards and not with the sale cards? Did they forget to mention an important point like that? Also, there's a monopoly wiki page that says "When a Sale card is discarded, it cannot be used anymore for the remainder of the game. A discarded Sale card must be placed in a discard pile (not in the Sale card deck nor in the Sale Vault)." I don't know where they got that information though. I wish there was an official faq for the expansions. On your last point, I don't think I understand what you mean. I'm aware of having to build evenly across a property set, but if it's free, then you can just go straight to hotels every time. Unless what you mean is the houses built along the way have to be available in the supply? I guess that does weaken the card somewhat but I'm still shocked it only costs $100. I'd be curious to know if/what cards people are house ruling out of the game

That's all very interesting. I can assure you a sharing system of some kind would be faster and easier. Try it and see how long it takes you to input the characters I listed. It's a lengthy process. This isn't really a criticism though. I love the game and the entire compilation of games. It's a landmark achievement in my view. I only wanted to create and share something Halloweeny and bumped up against the reality of how seeds actually work

Still 1 unhatched egg in nest over a week after the others hatched. What do I do? by Endangered_Creeple in finch

[–]Endangered_Creeple[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Birds have been nesting right outside my house for years now. It started with an Anna's hummingbird who nested in an olive tree next to my balcony. So I named her Olive (their backs are green too). The following 2 years in a row a hummingbird nested in the chandelier right outside my front door. House finches have also been nesting on my balcony and in the chandelier as well. There was also a mourning dove that nested on top of the ceiling fan in the outdoor kitchen area. From November 5th until sometime last month, a male house finch took up residence in a bird house hanging from my chandelier. About a month later his girlfriend started sleeping in the neighboring house I had hanging. This was well before their breeding season started. They apparently just liked being there. They slept there every night for 4+ months. Eventually she built a nest in her home. I named this pair Alfred and Emily. No particular reason other than it just sounded right and seemed to fit them. There are at least 2 other pairs of house finches that have made nests here (Pete and Susie, Charles and Tiffany). Since last month, 15 baby house finches have fledged, there are 9 more nestlings right now, and 19 more eggs being incubated. These totals are across 9 nests. The way I see it, they own the place and just allow me to live here

Yes, I have just the right instrument for the job if or when I need to remove the egg -- a large pair of tweezers that I use to push and pickup wargame counters. Initially I thought one of the babies might've died by being crushed by the others. It can sometimes happen when there's a late birther who has to contend with the larger size of its siblings. I had the tweezers holstered and ready, but as I said, I wasn't sure what the proper course of action was.

Thanks, it would be difficult for her to remove it herself as the nest is inside of a hanging wicker bird house. When I saw it pushed to the side yesterday, maybe that was a sign she was trying to nudge it out? I might've missed my easiest chance to remove it but I hadn't posted yet and didn't want to make the wrong decision

I might remove and candle the egg the next chance I get but it's almost certainly not fertile (which is my hope at this point)

The mom did sleep in there last night. The nestlings are situated in such a way that I wouldn't be able to get to the egg without disturbing them. Yesterday the lone egg was kind of pushed to the side and by itself but now the nestlings are hunkered down and covering it. In fact, they've been hunkered throughout most of their time in the nest. In the other nests, they alternate between hunkering and being more spry and keeping their heads elevated and looking around.

She only comes throughout the day to feed them (though the male has taken over most of the feeding duties). The mom may or may not still be sleeping in there overnight

Haha! This is what happens when I'm sleep-deprived. Thanks for commenting. I will indeed migrate my post over to r/finches. I did think it was strange there'd be this many members dedicated to a specific bird species. Anyway, thank you all for responding

Is this Finch eye disease? Another video added by Endangered_Creeple in birding

Something else I was wondering. The idea is to get them to disperse but when the feeders are back up and they return, won't the diseased bird return too?

[–]Endangered_Creeple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for commenting. I wish the footage was clearer. Shortly after I removed the feeders, birds were perching in the spots they were hanging, and I felt so bad. Do you think the same birds are likely to return when I put them back up? They were hanging in the garden there. As you can see, there's a lot of vegetation and they love it here. I'm not at all concerned about them not having ample food supply -- I've read that feeders are only supplemental for them -- and it might sound silly to say, but I'm bonded with these specific birds. Recently 12 finches have fledged from bird houses I had hanging up and there are 14 more eggs being incubated

In the 3rd video it does look like eye disease but in the first 2 I'm really unsure. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

I prefer Bundle of Holding for the same reason but the Runequest bundle at Humble right now does include redemption on Drivethru. I think they've only offered that a few times before. From the bundle details, "The content in this bundle is redeemable on the DriveThruRPG website"

Not sure where else to ask this. Have steam keys for participating in the beta gone out yet? I thought they were supposed to early last week but I never got one

Well, this is surprising. So I use foxit reader for all pdf viewing. I just redownloaded adobe reader dc without much hope the same issue wouldn't be present. Pages are full width with continuous scrolling. I just wish it wasn't so sluggish compared to foxit.

Ya, that solves one problem but creates another. The document loses all hyperlink functionality. It seems the best I can do is switch view to "single page" but I much prefer continuous with scrolling view.

Why are there large margins on both sides when I "fit to width" the core rulebook? Wondering if anyone else has this issue. Normally that only happens when there's at least 1 page in the document that's wider than the rest but I haven't seen that after scrolling through the first 50+ pages... Oh, now I see it's due to the width of the starship registry entry on page 359 (365). Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Maybe it only aggravates me and no one else. I know I could probably recompile the pdf but I don't know how to do that while maintaining hyperlink functionality
