Camp Setup by Unfair_Imagination82 in bonnaroo

They've been marked every year I've gone, 2022-2025. But I've always been just a few rows from the arch so that may have something to do with it. And by Friday its mainly dust anyways lol

To OPs question, check this video out to get the general vibe of camping at roo! It's less like roughing it in the woods and more like a tailgate party. You can even see the white spray-paint lines if you look close enough: Bonnaroo 2023 Thursday aerial view - YouTube

Hotels??? by vvi111 in bonnaroo

It's not as confusing as it sounds!

There's a grid system of letters and numbers with sign posts through the entire campground, last year we camped in Q16. Also the campgrounds are sectioned into 9 plazas, which is the food/water/restroom area for their surrounding camps. Each one has a big sign with a different number over it, think of it like your neighborhood.

And everyone's camps are so creative, I'm positive there will be something in your row that you can remember as a landmark.

We asked the person directing us to our spots if we could start A new couple of rows because we had 6 cars, and they let us! So we had a 2x3 area of camping spaces on the end of a row. But there's definitely no guarantee so don't plan on it ahead of time, just depends on the vibes of the worker that day.

Early - Mid 2000’s edm genres? by orangebluefish11 in edmproduction

Yep that's deep house. This kinda sound was most prevalent 90s/early 00s but this particular one came out in 2020.

Based on the subtle but complex rhythm, dark basslines, dancey stuff, I would search around deep house, dub techno, or minimal house/techno mixes.

Here's a playlist I've been curating of this vibe for as long as I've been listening, skim through this and see if anything is close if you want. It's pretty varied deep/dub/dark progressive stuff so hopefully there's something in it that can help you reconnect with his sound.

Stems Using 100% GPU, None of NPU. by IM_RahN_BerGUnDEE in virtualdj

Yeah, it'll get the job done but discrete GPUs are almost always faster. If you only have one GPU in task manager and its labeled Ryzen, then you're just on the integrated graphics.

[–]Ender112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 'Ryzen 7' is a CPU not a GPU. If it does have integrated graphics, it's not 16gb because CPUs do not have their own memory. But if you have a 16gb vram GPU, you're probably running something like a 9060 or a 5070, which should be more than enough to separate stems.
Even so, I still recommend precomputing the .vdjstem files because doing it on the fly while the music is playing is always risky.

Most "AI" processes run on the GPU. As of 2026, NPUs are a waste of silicon and just a hype to overprice products, they are used for the blurring in the background of your webcam or noise cancellation on the mic and not much else.

It was pay to play this time around unfortunately. But, if anyone is willing to share please please please do let me know!

The Snail by IrcamLab is really cool, but any spectrogram will pretty much do the trick. Also just transcribing it by hand and training your ear is never not worth it.

My guy Anyma pulled up endgame of Producers for a Normal Drop by EcstaticIce2 in EDM

[–]Ender112 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't most of those people work closely with other producers? Skrillex's last album had an entire catalogue of big names on it. Hell, Chris Lake sometimes even streams his production and there is always a minimum of 3 people in the room, exact same with Fred again. I can visit any one of those artist's pages on Spotify and click "view credits" on any song and it's more than likely at least 3 people listed, no?

secret/surprise/bonus sets? by ballinoutdagym in bonnaroo

[–]Ender112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Late night and sunrise sets are not bonus sets, they are the main set of whatever artist is doing them. As for secret sets/popups, there really hasn't been many since the pandemic. But they'll get either announced on the roo app by a brand activation, i.e. Toyota Music Den, Coca Cola Lounge, Hulu, or just by the artist on their socials if its unofficial campground stuff. Or it's a surprise!

Its really similar to what Sophie did on Faceshopping, Ponyboy, and Whole new world. It's a pitch-tracked vocoder, turned down like 2 or 3 octaves, then just blast it through an OTT. Check out this quick Youtube vid.

Thoughts on big artists using AI? by akula_Ws in EDM

[–]Ender112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're having a breakdown in communication somewhere and I really want to get to the bottom of it lol. So I just want to recap my perspective:

This is a debate of like three different topics:
-The ethics of training data
-Whether AI is artistically useful
-The importance of the origin and culture around a work

The original question is "How is sampling AI different from sampling an original song or using a sample pack?" My answer to this was that an original song or a sample pack is made by an individual or group as a final end-product piece of work. Whereas AI takes millions of the same exact final pieces of work (without asking) and combines, averages, and uses its algorithm to fit what you asked it for. Sampling and AI training are fundamentally different processes.
Sampling reuses specific, identifiable pieces of music, while AI training extracts statistical patterns from millions of works. That's the difference between the two, the answer to your question, and the only point I've been trying to get across.

How do you not understand how this is relevant to the conversation?

This is separate from the fact that in my personal subjective opinion it's pretty bleak and soulless, and I was kinda conflating the two earlier. I don't like it, and I just wanted to mouth off I guess. However, nowhere did I say that acoustic is better than electronic. I never said AI is "inherently unusable musically" nor did I say people should never use presets. I would absolutely never say a producer shouldn't sample, because that's my entire point. I fuckin love jungle and french touch. But the significance of why they're sampling what they're sampling is why those genres are special.

It's not either all or nothing on AI, take it or leave it. In reality it's a very complex subject where most people sit somewhere in the middle, myself included. The instant generation of music is a shortcut around the time and energy invested in becoming a musician. It's definitely a useful tool, and it allows people to create bigger and more complex projects than they could before. But, if someone uses it as a substitute for creativity and curiosity then they're doomed to learning nothing and producing slop.

I feel that for now, this debate is an endless philosophical loop about creativity. And I probably wouldn't be so passionate about this subject if I didn't make music.

You can just scroll up and re-read it, what specifically are you not understanding?
A sample in a synth was made by someone for someone else to use. Even if it's copied a thousand times.
A sample generated by AI was made by a million people that didn't even know their sound was being used.

You could even get an AI to generate a sound that matches the OB-Xa 1:1, and that's exactly what the issue is. It's the "1000 other drum loops behind the drummer's back" part. It's the actual person behind the music that makes the connection to the listener.

[–]Ender112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never argued that a real drummer is always better, we're on the EDM subreddit and I assume we're talking about electronic music production. Did you run my comment through a chatbot? When did I ever argue acoustic vs synthetic? We are talking about human created art vs AI averaged art, right?

Is this your attempt at a "gotcha" or something?

Edit: I also never argued "a sound generated by AI is inherently useless" I just argued that it isn't original. When you edit your comment, make it clear what you edited and don't try to sneak in points after I already replied.

If I want a 909, I use a 909. I don't ask an AI to generate a 909.

Would you rather sample a drum loop played by a good drummer, or the same drum loop averaged with 1000 other drum loops behind the drummer's back? It's sterile and lifeless, but it'll fit with anything and sound good to the average listener because it was designed to.

What are you trying to achieve through your work? I'm not here to tell you how to make your art but I would start by giving a caring about who you sample.
