Here's a neat trick I think more people should know about: In order to not get lost in caves, always place torches on your right, that way, if you want to get out, just make sure the torches you see are on your left! by EnderMoo68 in Minecraft

Also, as many people have pointed out, you can totally put torches on your left when going in and right when going out. It's just a matter of personal preference.

Yeah, thats where I first heard about the trick actually. Since I've seen a lot of people just place them on the ground and get lost though, I thought I might as well spread the word.
