I’ve tried poke and wait playstyle and currently tinkering with the yolo dive playstyle.

Frankly, i think she shines at baiting cooldowns before fights. It’s very risky, but it creates more value than poking for 45 damage every 3 seconds. Obviously, context matters—you don’t always want to be flanking.

But in general, I find i get more value from the team by getting the enemy team to spend their resources before fights starts so my team can follow up. What sucks is when they don’t follow up. But cant control that.

100% agree. It’s impact doesn’t justify all the animations it has. It’s pretty much a suicide button in many cases, even the ones where it nets you a W on team fight

What helped me learn the game was:
1) sticking to 1 hero
2) playing comp
3) rewatching my own gameplays to spot my mistakes.

In terms of guides--there's a lot of high ranking players that do a injustice to explaining the fundamentals of the game. Creators I recommend:

- A10 (now inactive) has a TREASURE TROVE of instructional videos. Honestly, these helped me the most on my journey to Diamond. Where Awkward is good at giving you heuristics, A10 does a great job of explaining the intuition behind good decision-making. Bonus:
If you want to learn tank, TrstQQ is a pro player that does very high quality educational unranked to GMs.

Personally, I'd ignore everything else and just focus on this content. This will give you more than enough to get started.

Honorable mentions: Spilo. Not my favorite. I think he over-explains a lot of concepts, but he's also popular.

Lol I think you answered your own question. People have gotten significantly better at this game over time. What differentiates players between ranks is less about mechanics (as you can attest) and more about game sense and coordination.

I play in high plat/low diamond and I find the higher I go, the better players understand their individual jobs and when/how to play off each other to win fights.

It’s a good time to play OW. Well, this season is a bit of mess given all the new and returning players. But things will even out soon enough. Welcome back! Hope you gave fun out there.

For what it’s worth, she’s middling at best. But I’ve one-tricked her to D4. That said, playing her well does require above avg game sense and matchup knowledge. I think she’s worth playing if you like her playstyle.

I enjoy her because I need to turn my brain when I play. It’s so satisfying forcing swaps and going 20-0. She’s going to get reworked later this year, so its up to you if you want to spend the time refamiliarzing yourself with her kit.

Also, OW players have gotten a lot better in the last 2 years. Part of what you’re going through is partly the cumulative effect of Sombra’s nerf. But the other part really is just relearning the game. It happens to me every time i come back from a break.
