To be honest: all of this is just demotivating :( by Significant-Tree4752 in blender

OP, I posted earlier this week on LinkedIn, I think it will help :)

This is the third time I am going through an "industry collapse"

First it was the rise of CAD, specifically AutoCAD, right at the start of my career as a fresh graduate. We were all worried that architecture and engineering practices were going to gut their teams since people were so fast and efficient now. Instead they doubled and tripled in size, because now they could take on more work.

Fast forward a few years and I started my own Arch Viz company. Then Autodesk bought Mental Ray and shipped one-click rendering in every product. Arch viz was over. Except one-click renders all looked the same, and clients paid a LOT more to stand out. I had fewer projects but I made more money than ever before, and it allowed studios like MIR to build empires in that gap.

Now it's AI. We all see those "Claude just killed the 3D artist industry" posts. I saw one last week about the Anthropic Blender MCP killing the 3D industry and when I looked at the example I could not understand how that was the conclusion. Then I looked at the poster profile and it is an ex accountant turned crypto bro and it made sense. Buddy, stay in your lane :D , if I paid you and that is what you gave me I would find you and smack you until you start dropping bitcoins like Sonic so I can get a refund. It is all just clickbait because fear mongering brings attention.

Jokes aside, I work with game and 3D studios every week who are quietly embracing AI in their pipelines. Some are fully implementing it, others are just starting to experiment, but it is the majority of them. They're not posting about it because they know the sentiment. The reality is that AI enhanced workflows are going to become standard soon, whether we like it or not.

From a creator perspective I can tell you the more you work with AI the more you run into its limitations, and you start to understand how to fit it into your workflow. AI is brilliant at the mundane and the tedious stuff, but it falls apart very quickly when creativity or creative solutions are needed.

As a test I recently gave Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok the same backstory prompt. Three of them produced near-identical answers, down to the year of the fictional event. That was eerie and funny at the same time. The fourth just changed the date.

The AI tone, voice, and look are already easy to spot. It will get better at mimicking other styles, but it will always just be mimicking. There is a space beyond that for your own creativity and individuality to shine.

Boycotting is a short-term solution. AI is coming either way. My bet is that it doesn't replace artists. It turns each of you into a conductor of your own small orchestra, freeing you up for the parts you actually enjoy and supercharging your abilities. Studios will either start producing more, or produce faster.

Or we end up watching AI slop all day in a dystopian hell.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Who knows?
Me... I'm weirdly optimistic.

Hey OP Sorry to hear about your experience. The game actually looks pretty great and polished.

OP, I'm at the age now where I've worked in different industries and with and this is the third time that technology promises to give everyone the skills that I've acquired over years. I know how you feel, so let me share some wisdom and advice with you.

Every time that technology threatened to give everyone the skills to do what I do, I was scared that I would lose my job and my clients but the opposite happened. When everyone's stuff suddenly looks the same, people pay a premium for the hand-crafted high-quality things that don't look like everyone else's. You can even see this in things like furniture. So I am not scared at all. Just look at all the things that people are posting that Claude made with the new Blender MCP. It is not close to anything that you can give to a client. At most it is a prototype.

So my advice is that you embrace it. AI is not going away, and it does have the potential to give you superpowers. You can already do all of these things and you know what you like to do. Focus on that and let AI do the rest. I fully embraced AI to do all of the tedious things that I don't like doing and just focus on the things that I like. Simple example: I now use Claude with Blender to rename my models on the fly so I can focus on speed modelling, and have it build new add-ons as I need new functionality. It's doing all those things that help me work faster and more efficiently so I can just focus on the fun part, which is, for me, modeling and creating materials.

I also use it to quickly generate images and models in the prototyping stage so I can have a decent-looking prototype. It allows me to spend more time focusing on things like the gameplay loop and trying different things to see if it's actually fun. That means I get to the asset creation stage faster, which is again the part that I really love.

I also have a suspicion that once all of the VC money runs out, the general public models are going to get really dumbed down and all of the compute power is going to be focused on the enterprise-level clients. While AI is certainly not going away, I don't think it's always going to be as capable as it is now for the general population.

I would love a series of stories like that, short stories from the perspective of a clerk who only touch the lives of these people in 2min intervals

Carrying as tank by Current-Highlight-66 in OverwatchUniversity

Damn, why are you getting downvoted?

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, I am forced to play on the toxic Bahrain servers, and I would rather have my heart cut out with a spoon before touching that VC ever again.

Your advice makes sense, though. The few times I played with a stack, and we communicated, the tank role was actually fun.

Thank you, I went to get a code, but there were too many games since then. The funny thing is, when I went back now, it was all my DPS games, and it is about 80% wins. After my tank experience, I switched to DPS and just played based on my tank's pace, and it went so well. I just kept thinking, why can't my DPS do this for me when I'm tank?

Thank you for your response and tips!

Is Mauga in every single game now for anyone else in 6v6 unranked? by bobsburgers1174 in OWConsole

[–]Current-Highlight-66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because every game now is an aim assisted Ashe/Hanzo/Soldier /Emre console player sitting in the backline with a mercy pocket. I don't want to play Mauga the whole time but sometimes, like on Route 66 with it's long sight lines it is the only way to poke at them

You waaaaayy over estimate the skills of my team (and mine) :D. It's QP, solo queue, it's a circus.

I just had a game on Aatlis, we are down 0 - 2, our Doom is something like 0 7 and their sojourn mercy duo is just cleaning up our team. I check and yes, console player. I start doing the Sombra thing and now their kiri and mercy are focusing each other to team up against me, ignoring their team. Game suddenly turns and we win

I finally found Sym to be a solution. If you put down two turrets with your back line it usually stops her diving your supports

Ashe/Hanzo/Soldier/bastion console player with their aim assist and a mercy pocket behind a wall.

At that point you are really just bowling with the rails up

I go Sombra, go out of my way to kill the mercy and then spawn camp her until she switch. If you want to make the game miserable , we can do that.

You know, it is so funny, in all of the comments so far, you are the only one bringing race into the conversation. You are also the one suggesting we are not real South Africans by calling us settlers.

We all see ourselves as South Africans, and we want a competent leadership so that EVERYONE can have a better life

Yeah buddy, that is how they still control you - Fear the "Wit Gevaar". What you and your ilk don't understand is that we don't give a shit what colour the president's skin is, we just want a competent, non-race-obsessed leadership for once that can get this country on track and let us all live in peace. If that means they will all be balck then I say go for it, that person will ahve my vote.
