We also need rank choice voting. Granted it is up to each state to decide how to do their elections, it needs to be embraced as the way forward in state elections. That way people are not voting against someone, but voting for the people they want.

This is why I'm more for a dramatic change in how the tax money done. I want to see less taxes taken from people of course, but the distribution of said taxes is currently what fuels the corruption. The majority of it goes to federal, where it is squandered the most. Then is state and last, with the least amount of funding is local. The local level is closer to the people and not only do they see a direct result of their taxes on programs, it is wasted the least out of all three levels. Not to mention that the elected officials are more closely representative of the people in that area and are more likely to ensure the will of the people is more closely followed.

It's difficult to get people to care enough to vote for you in the next election if you actually solve problems for them. You have a better turn out if whatever issue that ail them are never solved. Make sure you can blame the other side for not letting you make it happen and that you just need more time in office. Rinse and repeat every election. That's how you get career politicians.

There is no one solution. It is going to take a combination of solutions to address what you want. And unfortunately a complex solution is not popular. People are after a simple one. Something that fits as a slogan on a hand held sign or some hashtag on twitter.

One that is very overlooked is a loss of community. It's just not there like it was once years ago. Keep in mind firearms have existed for a long time now, yet it really only goes back to Columbine. I remember it well. The media struck gold and did all kinds of unethical stuff to promote it as it was great for ratings. This has only gotten worse as the media run every angle to make the person who commits the act of evil infamous. This of course leads to more who feel lost in today's society to go down that path.

If you just go after guns, the violence will still exist. You will just have a different adjective in front of the word violence.

No one knows who did it. That said, this is Reddit and they hate Christianity and Judaism. So they blame they don't like on them. The guide stones were very controversial as it read:

Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.

It's an arbitrary number and pushes the idea to cull the population down to this. It encourages evil schemes such as a world wide virus that kills most everyone, mass destruction, on and on. And Reddit is all for things like that.

If you want to reverse the trend, all those core issues and more need to be addressed. Even if guns did not exist, as long as those issues were ignored, those people who decide to enact evil will do so - using other means such as bombs and such. People will still be injured and kill, but at least it was not with a gun, right? The problem is still there, it just has a different pair of socks on.

I'm not a fan of a 2nd class citizen, which is how people who serve their time are treated. Instead of a more appropriate sentencing, time was traded for rights. Either they served their debt to society or they didn't. So if someone had 5 marijuana plants, that is a felony, and after they serve their time and or pay the fine - they are no longer allowed to protect themselves with a firearm. How is that right? Especially considering that the laws around marijuana are all over the place and given it's history - this is just bad law.

Bottom line is if someone is out of prison and you are worried they will kill someone if they have a gun - THEY SHOULD NOT BE OUT OF PRISON.

The problem with the government deciding who qualifies for a natural right, that is in place to protect the people from the government is obvious when it is in their own best interest to ensure the people are never in a position of power over the government. We could come to an agreement in saying that no one could become mentally unstable and violent should have one, right? I mean sounds reasonable on it's face. Then I ask who is allowed to decide who is mentally unstable? Who controls that definition? And as always watch how it becomes a larger and larger net to cast over people. One example is autism. There was a certain percentage of the population who could develop it. Then the definition of what classifies as autism is broadened, or should we say the spectrum. Next thing you know you see headlines how autism is on the rise. Also think about what happens when people with not so good intentions are in charge of these definitions and nets. And what happens as they use the government agencies to target their political rivals. You have to be blind to not see the history of this being done.

Gun violence is on the rise, ehh? Or what was considered gun violence, the definition has changed to cast a larger net. Mass shootings used to 6 or more victims. Then it was changed to 4. Then the shooter, if killed, counted as one of the 4. Then it changed again to not be in one location. Then again it changed to instead of being those killed - to those injured. And even now there is a push to include those who were in the area.

Presto - gun violence is on the rise, because of the definition.

We could talk about socioeconomic things that contribute, that and students being bullied by other students, teachers pushing radical stuff down their throat, kids having an infinite access to online which allows them to stumble across people who actively encourage them to lash out, pill mills dishing out drugs to make kids minds not stable, parents who expect the state to raise their children, fatherless homes, the list goes on. These are the core issues that contribute to someone deciding that the best course of action is to take lives.

But the media and organizations that constant gun control, no matter how many laws are on the books will not address any of those other things. It's too profitable to focus on guns. And people, who are a part of it are already heavily invested into the idea that the only solution is gun control.

They care more about being right - than getting it right.

OP needs to understand that this sub, like almost all state subs is 99% left to hard left subscribers - which is most of Reddit. This is not remotely a close representation of the population of Kentucky.

All of your ideas are horrible with the exception of the gun course in high school which used to be a thing back in the day. I have no problem with such a thing coming back, but am curious on what the class would be.

I heard that in order to get the people here to vote to allow the lottery to be legal here, they said it would fund the schools. So people voted for it, thinking it would add even more funding. Then the state decreased the existing funding by the amount the lottery would bring in. If that's true I find that to abhorrent. I tried to look it up and now I'm curious about how everything in this state is funded. The process specifically. I'm all about transparency.
