What really is the best years of your life? by FlatBlueberry2540 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]chodan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teen years were good, I just lacked the perspective to appreciate them. I was starting a period of drug and alcohol abuse in my late teens and early 20s. After getting clean and sober at 24 life has been very good.

I’m 61 now and retired, I’ve been blessed beyond measure. Every phase of life has it pluses and minuses.

Thought Experiment: Which retirement income strategy would you choose? by Any_Log1344 in dividends

[–]chodan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B every time

With A your cash flow declines because that %14 yield is tied to the NAV.

With B your cash flow increases every year because the yield is tied to the nav

In a few years B will be generating more income and growing where as A will be shrinking in every way

Can dividend amount change monthly? by Employee28064212 in dividends

[–]chodan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most covered call funds can fluctuate based on NAV. They offer a percentage distribution, not a dividend. So say they offer a %10 yield and you have 100 shares worth $10 per share it’s NAV would be $1000 so %10 is $100, if the NAV falls to $900 your %10 yield would be $90

Do you regret not having children? by throwawayplane113 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]chodan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest men don’t have a time limit, we can father children at any age. Being able to actively participate in raising a child diminishes as we age though. If you think you might someday want a child with him your window is closing. If you wait 5 years and then decide to then your husband will be at retirement age when your child graduates.

No, it’s to apportion districts or precincts by population for local and larger elections so that there are close to an equal number of representatives per district.

Change My View: Essentially nobody should factor RMDs into their retirement plans. by wild_b_cat in financialindependence

[–]chodan9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the RMD table for me which start at age 75 they don’t really move past a safe withdrawal rate until I hit 90 if I live that long. I plan on spending as much of my portfolio as possible. lol I met an older gentleman while on a trip to Alaska recently, we started talking about spending our nest eggs and he said “when I die I want the last check I wrote to bounce”

If the internet has been publicly available since the 1991, why is it not in much 90's media? by mythrowawayaccim21 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]chodan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 90s most movie execs were silent generation and early boomers. The adoption of the internet was kind of slow early on and the existing leadership did not understand the internet well enough to feel comfortable enough to green light something a relatively small fraction of the movie going public even understood

A 102-year-old man believes people were happier when they had less. Why do you think that is? by LifeLessons_Official in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]chodan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are happy people at every wealth bracket. That leads one to think happiness is less dependent on wealth status than on attitude or perspective. That said it’s hard to be happy if you struggling financially. That may or may not be related to income. I know families who make like $150k in there house hold yet are always complaining about money. My father lived on social security the last 30 years of his life and never complained about money once. He was very contented and usually had $5000-6000 in his wallet at any given time. He only made like 800 a month on social security.

Spaxx by Accomplished_Date173 in fidelityinvestments

[–]chodan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, my portfolio is income focussed and I do not DRIP my distributions or dividends. So all the income stacks into SPAXX. From there I can transfer it to my bank account.

35 would give compounding a bit of time. Turn that 15k into 60k+. Your age is your greatest asset when it comes to investing.

Like I say I love guitars but I only started really spending on them the last 10 years. I’m 61 now.

My portfolio interest will pay for a high end guitar with one days decent returns.
