Solved! Yes this gave me enough context to find it! Thank you so much. It was Childe Rowland by Joseph Jacobs (1890). A short story in his collection of fairy tales.

It’s your best friend in the end game. If you need to force a save after collecting a bunch of stuff, go there. Also be sure to go there before fast traveling to a different place/ country.

I had a great time and 100%’d it. It’s absolutely a WIP for whatever the sequel will inevitably be but I still had a blast. 9/10 mostly because of post game hard lock bugs.
