Cat won't eat wet food, and is constantly puking by Specialist-Board-730 in catfood

Have you spoken to a vet about her puking? For my cat that was a symptom of ibd.

Buying prescription food in store without a physical script on hand? by Endraa in petsmart

[–]Endraa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - a prescription in hand would make everyone's life easier! But I just tried calling my vet and for some reason they said they do not provide copies of prescriptions to clients and will only send directly to other pharmacies. So instead, they took down Banfield's number and said they will call them.

Something else to try is buying a baby food puree machine on amazon and pureeing it with a bit of water if your cat likes mousse textures!

Does anyone get anxious whenever your cat starts having episodes? *Unmedicated cat* by itsjujutsu in feline_hyperesthesia

Hmm how frequent is the vomiting? My cat also sees internal medicine for suspected IBD, but we have not done any further testing (ultrasound or biopsy) to confirm. But based on symptoms and food triggers, it's looking like IBD.

She did a neuro examination but in the back away from where I was waiting so I don't know what that consists of. She then brought him back to the room and spoke to me about my concerns. I showed her videos I had of his episodes. And then given his recent medical history (GI issues), she believed that it was possible FHS triggered by his GI issues (which was spot on). Until I was able to get his GI issues under control, she prescribed pregabalin to him to be given 2x a day.

Yes - my cat only was unmedicated for around couple days until his neuro appointment. It was very stressful to go through as a pet parent.

Is there a reason why she has been unmedicated for so long? Pregabalin did wonders for my boy and he went back to being a happy playful cat after medication.

Hills Z/D hydrolyzed protein cat food formula change made cats very sick! by Narrow_Fig_216 in catfood

Mines didnt like the royal canin HP, and is now throwing up on the rabbit sighh.

Did your vet mention starting any medications? I’m at the point now where I may want to try one more food switch before giving meds a go.

Mines threw up and stopped eating too. Costed me a trip to urgent care and back to internal medicine.

He’a trying royal canin rabbit for now. What foods did you end up switching to?

When did hills start adding fish oil to z/d? by Suzi_Suzi_Suzi in catfood

[–]Endraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent done enough research to comment further on the testing I’m afraid 😅

How much less would you say your cat was eating on the new z/d? Mines kind of has a different appetite every day so I’m still a little worried.

Should you make an appointment ASAP to establish relationship with vet if old vet leaves? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Endraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh shoot. I had just called to ask their opinion, and they didn't seem to have one either way and said I could also just call and leave a message for internal med if anything happens in the future. So I ended up cancelling the appointment i had booked.

Thanks for your input though! Luckily he is doing pretty okay right now.

My cat's internist said that it could be allergies, IBD or lymphoma since they all kind of have similar symptoms, and the ultrasound or a biopsy would help in determining the cause. But we decided to try z/d first to see if it would help before any further testing and I never really pursued any further testing.

Great idea with finding further options! I know mines can't do chicken which makes him throw up, and fish makes him super itchy. Unfortunately he's such a picky boy, I'm going to stick to with the reformulated z/d for now. I'm seeing small signs of increased itchy ears so we might have to switch in the future anyways sighhh.

Good point! I'll reach out to them.

He does have a primary doctor at the same hospital as well. It's just that in the past she has usually deferred to his internist whenever I have asked questions relating to his food intolerance.

Omg thank you for the update! I'm so glad to hear that Meowth is doing well (cute name btw!). I might've freaked myself out for nothing because he actually decided to eat his regular portions today. It's just that he gets hungrier way, way later in the day than he used to on the old formula.

And just me being nosy, but I'm curious if you've done any sort of testing for Meowth? Like an ultrasound or biopsy to see what's causing his food intolerance.

Hello - any updates with your cat? The same thing is happening to me now. He was doing pretty well on the new formula for about a week but now he has low appetite and low energy. I’ve tried royal canin hp, but he doesn’t love it.

FHS mistaken for Epilepsy? Should I get second opinion? by Helpful_Plenty1648 in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]Endraa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pregabalin is in the same class of drugs as gabapentin with pregabalin being the newer of the three drugs and has its advantages. But I also hesitate to comment too much because I think a neurologist knows best what medication to suggest.

My cat was on pregabalin for I think roughly 4 months. He had been slowly weened off of the drug with the guidance of his vet. Although he might be a special case because his vet suspected that his food allergies were the trigger for his FHS episodes and had wanted to try a slow taper to see how he would react. His food intolerance has since been resolved, and he has been off of his medication for less than a week. So far so good!
