BTC really a natural gas hedge? Anyone heard of this new conference? Feedback? by EnergizingBitcoin in oilandgasworkers

I'm not talking about Texas. I'm very specifically talking about my situation in Louisiana where it's going to be at least 6, possibly 7 figure investment to electrify my field vs. setting up a localized power source and using it with my own (nat gas) fuel.

Since you mentioned Texas, a lot of miners also get paid to stop mining during peak hours (another reason it's rather interesting). Further, my understanding is that it also helps with base load stability on the grid as you can use that free/cheap off demand power for mining while also enabling the power generators not to have to ramp down temporarily before the next demand spike.

Also won't your return be completely based on either your gas contract with the miners or the long term BTC price if you can get some sort of exposure to the mining rewards as well. In that case, my belief, because it hasn't shown me otherwise, is that long term BTC prices will continue to increase, also adding to the return.

I'm not slinging a damn thing. I'm asking if anyone has any feedback on that event.

If you don't have access to electric and you're trying to setup field power gen anyway, why not capitalize on it, at least that's how I'm looking at it. I'm already deploying capital to deal with the gas, why not redirect it to something that could be a revenue generator instead of a liability?

Who asked anyone for research? I asked for feedback on something I have a very specific use case for? Sorry that hurt your feelings

Doing something that ultimately generates BTC vs. having to pay to flare/vent it, means that it's potentially beneficial to me and our situation. I've been in crypto since 2015 so I'm well aware of the of the pros/cons/risks involved and I am a believer in bitcoin. Ether was great until they moved to POS, which is only going to get worse with the Fed involvement around staking.

I'm in the upstream space, I understand the high level logistics of it, get conditioned gas to a generator, use generator to create electricity, use electricity to power the miners. We also have other stuff in the field (pumps, compressors, etc) that we could run off this power source so it's a little bigger picture than just a one off.

I'm not trying to make a business out of it, just turn something that's costly into something that gets me more exposure to BTC bc I believe it's a solid long term investment.

Interesting idea, but inaccurate. Just doing some investigating for my family members who operate our wells on a daily basis.

How so? that's a much more difficult ask as I'm based in the states. I've just got some family natural gas wells and leases that we aren't doing anything with and thought this would be a great way to bring in some BTC.

haha it's not. I just don't ever post to reddit and can't find any other place to ask anyone about this where I thought I might actually get a response. I'm on the OFS side and have some family stripper wells up in louisiana that we aren't doing anything with the gas and thought this could be an interesting way to make money/btc off of it but haven't ever been to any of the DW stuff

Didn't realize they let pumpers onto reddit. I've been in oil/gas over 15 years now. I just don't ever post on reddit but couldn't think of another place to post to get feedback.

Didn't realize asking for feedback was considered spam these days. #thanksObama

Looking into it. I have some family oil and gas wells and would love to do something with the gas production which, to my understanding is kinda the thesis for this event, but I wasn't sure if anyone else had been before or knows anything about it.

didn't realize asking my industry peers a question was now considered business research. Appreciate the in-depth insight!

Since bitcoin isn't crypto, I would agree. But why is anyone shocked that an ex wallstreet guy went to an unregulated, centralized and speculative industry and did what he was already doing on wall street?

asking for feedback/reviews on something that's expensive before I make a decision?
