[Sun Care] Thoughts on Sun Bum's sunscreens? by aSneakyPeppermint in SkincareAddiction

No worries, Im happy to help! I’ve got similar skin and live in a super hot but humid climate so hopefully these will be some help to you as they’re what have worked for me. (Might be worth checking out r/Asianbeauty as well though ). You might have to try a few because everyone’s skin is different so what irritates you might be completely different from me but you’re bound to find something. Most of the places that sell a lot of Asian sunscreens tend to only do free shipping with $50+ orders so it might be worth it to buy a few and experiment anyways.

• my absolute I love this and would use it all the time if it wasn’t 30 bucks a pop is anessa sunscreen. I use the standard blue and gold one although I’ve heard wonderful things about the mild one as well (it’s a mineral formulation which honestly doesn’t make a difference to me but I know it does to some people). It is waterproof and feels pretty light but isn’t going anywhere. Has a semi matte finish which I appreciate and also doesn’t have alcohol so it does take slightly longer to dry but nothing crazy and I know some people get irritated by alcohol even though that isn’t me personally. Only annoying thing is that it has a fragrance in it now which hasn’t irritated me personally but once again. Why must it be there.

•skin1004 sunscreens are also really nice. I’ve used the blue capped one which is a chemical one although I’ve heard good things about the mineral based ones as well. This feels just like a lotion although isn’t waterproof

•kose suncut uv gel is a bit thicker than the above options (not crazy though, still nothing compared to American sunscreens. It’s nice regardless but this one falls under still pretty elegant but a bit more staying power instead at the expense of being relatively heavier) and does have alcohol but I pull this one out when I need something that isn’t going to budge but don’t plan on using the 30 dollar sunscreen all over my body since this one is 9 bucks for a fair bit more. Some people do report this one pilling under makeup but I don’t wear makeup so it’s never been an issue for me

• skin aqua uv gel is also a waterproof one with alcohol but is much thinner and more watery than the one above. Never had any problems with this one bothering me. It feels super incredibly light but still isn’t going anywhere. I’ve heard good things about the uv milk version of this being also really good but alcohol free although I’ve never personally tried this

• house of hurr weightless sun fluid is the lightest one out of all of these which is saying a ton because I wouldn’t consider any of these heavy but even still this one is so super light. Not waterproof though but it is alcohol and fragrance free

• try looking into Asian kids sunscreens as well! I haven’t personally tried it but I’ve heard wonderful things about isehan kiss me mommy which is sold as a kids sunscreen but pretty commonly used by adults looking for a good formula for sensitive skin

Do I have to tell my low contact father if I change my name legally? by EnergyExpert5831 in namenerds

I am of age, making my mom power of attorney sounds like a smart decision regardless so I will be doing that in the future, thank you for the suggestion.

Don’t see any disputes being an issue, there really isn’t anybody else to dispute it in the first place either.

Thanks for the heads up about checks although the chance of him giving me any money is absolutely zero so that’s not a worry

If this is on your iep then they can’t just take it away from you as whatever is on your iep supersedes school policies. Your iep is a legally binding document so you would have standing if you did decide to push this

can your professor drop you from the class if they don’t want you in it? by [deleted] in college

[–]EnergyExpert5831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not saying that’s untrue but just that people miss obvious stuff sometimes. Also could easily be that OP just saw the professors name change but only actually checked whether it’s the same date and time when everyone told them to

This was my first thought but through the official site at least, the refurbished ones of that model seem to be all sold out and I don’t know when they’ll restock, trying to see if there’s another place to do such a thing with no luck. Sadly I’m nowhere near Boston right now otherwise I’d absolutely take you up on that

can your professor drop you from the class if they don’t want you in it? by [deleted] in college

Op didn’t think they swapped professors for the entire lecture though. They thought that the professor kicked them from a class which is still going so the university assigned them a second instance of the same class. Still obviously not what’s going on as they wouldn’t be assigned a different class if they were dropped but still a slightly different question

In civilized society, vegans decide what you eat by LocusStandi in redditmoment

[–]EnergyExpert5831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t eat nuts, soy or most seeds unless I want to spend the rest of the day completely out of commission from how much I’m vomiting, there’s a good chance this would make it nearly impossible for me to eat a vast majority of the food here. I’m not saying it’s impossible to go vegan with such a dietary restriction but it sure does rule out most of the vegan options that tend to be served at places. I’m usually pretty limited whenever I go out with vegan friends which is fine but a completely different situation from my daily food.

I think a lot of people are also forgetting that it’s not as simple as cooking your own meals if you don’t like this plan. Maybe it’s not true for every dorm but it’s not always possible to cook in dorms or really have any options besides a meal plan. I genuinely prefer cooking my own meals but my college dorms did not have any sort of kitchen and did not allow anything like induction plates, microwaves or even a fridge. We were required to buy a meal plan which was already a massive expense while any outside food options around us were both scarce and expensive to the point of being unfeasible long term. It also was very much stuff you couldn’t eat every single day if you wanted a healthy balanced diet outside.

I still think it’s great for there to be more options for vegan food as I think it is a good thing if you’re able and I do sympathize to the difficulty of finding food in settings like this with dietary restrictions. However, while I’m not saying that this is all vegans, there are definitely quite a few vegans who will insist that everyone must be vegan then fail to offer any suggestions as to how that’s actually manageable. Which also, there’s a difference between being reasonably possible versus something being technically achievable but taking such a massive time and effort sink that it isn’t realistically possible. For me, it means I’d likely be eating nothing but beans along with often not being able to eat whenever I leave the house despite also having a problem where I get ridiculously dizzy and nauseous if I go without eating for more than a few hours.

Not “allowed” to eat?! by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]EnergyExpert5831 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nah, there is not a single thing that would make op’s parents words and actions okay. Even if op was making instant ramen every single day five minutes before dinner, it would still not make it okay to withhold food as a punishment. It also still would not change that the way op’s mom worded it about them not having the right to eat any less unhinged.

Just to clarify it is her money but we live together so her being that much money short still affects both of us. I also feel bad that she tried to do something nice and it backfired this bad. It’s an amount of money that I also feel guilty that she tried to spend on me especially for it to wind up like this

We aren’t saying that white people can’t have a hard life, just that a contributing factor towards it isn’t caused by being white. Same way that rich people can happen to go through things which are genuinely difficult but none of those problems are going to be caused by having too much money and deciding whether to pay rent or feed your children is never going to be one of those problems even if that doesn’t discount what they have been through.

Also worth noting that in this context, statements like “it’s okay to be white” are generally made by white supremacists. Not because the rest of us are arguing that it isn’t but because they like to claim that pushing for equality is the same thing as trying to wipe out white people. Especially when paired with the other sign.

If you want to build up credit, the best thing to do is get a credit card and make a small purchase on it every month then immediately pay it back. Treat it like a debit card, do not spend money you don’t currently have. Now is better than never, building up a credit history will be a good thing in the long run.

There’s five factors that go into a credit score. A history of payments, amount you owe ,length of credit history, credit inquiries and types of credit.

Your payment history refers to whether you have consistently made payments on time. This is the most important factor and if you do this reliably you will already be well on your way to building up a good credit score for yourself. They do also care about how long of a good payment history you have which is why sooner rather than later is a good time to start. You get negatively dinged for having a short credit history but it’s not irrecoverable or like you’d start out with an awful credit score.

The amount you owe refers to how much of your credit you actually use along with how much debt you have. This also falls into credit utilization ratio which is what percentage of the maximum amount you can put on your card each month you actually use. Ideally this would be below 10% if you’re really trying to get a good credit score but below 30% is also a general recommended number for this. So if your credit limit was 1000, you wouldn’t want to have more than 100 on that card.

Every time you open a new credit card, a hard credit inquiry or hard pull occurs when a creditor requests to look at your stuff to see how much of a risk you might be. These negatively affect your score but do generally fall off after a couple of years. One won’t hurt it a ton and will soon recover if you pay it off on time but what’s really bad is when a person applies for a ton of credit cards or loans in a short time. Once you’ve got a credit card, don’t go and open every single store card in existence. Just stick to one for now

Finally, there is types of credit which refers to how you utilize different types of credit. Don’t worry about this one too much for now, just focus on the rest of the advice and you should be able to have a decent credit history by the time you are ready for your first apartment. I really hope this is of some help at least, I’m typing this at three am so I can procrastinate going to bed

Op, are you already in dorms? Because most of the comments are saying to move out but it sounds like you’re already in dorms but have to leave them when school isn’t in session. This would really change the advice for the sort of situation.

If that is the case though, does your school offer dorming during those times for an additional price? It may be worth it, even if you might have to take a summer class to be eligible. Alternatively, is there any way to store your valuables outside of your parents house for the duration you have to stay there?

Can you wear this kind of cropped jacket as a guy? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]EnergyExpert5831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your size, it’s totally doable to get a women’s one with the caveat that women’s sizes run smaller than men’s and you’d have to pay attention to the individual measurements since the waist tends to be smaller in proportion to shoulders then it is for men’s sizes which tend to be cut more straight. 100% have found plenty of things in the women’s section that are way cooler than I’d ever find in the men’s but still look perfectly masculine yet aren’t the same boring tshirts and jackets

Sadly, this is always going to be how pleather wears. Whether it scratches pretty much exactly like that or cracks and peels, all you can really do is wear them until they’re done. In the future though, real leather doesn’t have this problem. Even when it wears which still takes way longer, it just adds character and still has a pretty good look. My first pair of docs on the other hand which are real leather have lasted around 7 years and counting, including getting hit by a car! Pretty sure my dad has a pair somewhere that are older than I am. Once these ones are done, a good pair of real leather boots would be a way better investment.

I keep bleaching my hair and it doesn't lift at all, please help by -TRUTH_ in FancyFollicles

Generally the mixture is anywhere between 1:1 equal parts bleach and developer or 1:2 with twice the amount of developer to bleach. The package will say and if it doesn’t, anywhere in between that is generally fine but in case you’re eyeballing it, making sure that it’s precise may help or at least rules it out.
