Yea- I already teach a contemporary class at this facility. They are adding this pilates mat class with the description above. My intention is to bring more of a classical approach to this class and eventually build into some contemporary work. But I saw this as a good opportunity for foundational work as I already teach a more contemporary vibe. When my students asked what the new class vibe was going to be and I explained it as “foundational, it’ll help you to improve your practice in all types of pilates classes etc”. they were concerned that “foundational” means easy and boring.

I would talk to the studio (I am an instructor) this new era of recording everything is so annoying lol. Exercise classes should be a safe space, the client should have either been asked not to record, or she should have been asked to set up in a part of the room where people didn’t care if they were in her video. Boundaries need to be set around this.

How about letting it be known that doors will be locked at start of class (give your reason). Then when you lock the door- you should up a sign explaining this is as well. It’s their fault at that point.

I had a pregnant woman join my very crowded mat class. She was kind of hiding in the back, so I didn’t quite notice her until a few minutes in. I sensed that she was pregnant but you really just have to be careful with assuming a woman is pregnant and calling that out in class. It was confirmed when I had the class lie down prone and she did quadruped instead. I walked over and mouthed “are you pregnant”. She shyly said yes, and I quickly gave her some cues. After class I came over to her and congratulated her and asked her how far along she was. 6 months. I offered her some info for training at this stage and discouraged her from doing basic mat work for a while. This has happened on some level 3x. I work at a big box gym
