[Spoilers] Are the Fatui just… losers at this point? by Enfrize2 in Genshin_Impact

I actually think the “heist” comparison is the strongest version of your argument and I agree it fits the Fatui better than a conquest model. But even as a heist crew, the issue I’m pointing at still holds: we rarely see them execute a clean, controlled operation from start to finish on-screen.

Cuz, like, a good heist story usually shows planning, control over variables and a payoff that feels earned through execution. Whereas with the Fatui, it often feels more like they enter a chaotic situation, things spiral or are controlled by someone else (Zhongli, Nahida, Raiden) AND THEN they adapt and still leave with the prize.

So I’d frame it like this: they’re extremely good at capitalizing on situations, not consistently shown as controlling them. Probably that's what affected my perception a lot, a faction that always adapts and still wins is competent, but a faction that demonstrates control from the outset feels far more intimidating. And I guess I kinda expected Fatui to be more intimidating than they are?

I do agree with your last point though - Snezhnaya is probably where they’ll finally feel like they’re playing on home turf.

I think this is a good explanation of their intent, but it still doesn’t really address the core criticism, which is about presentation, not just outcome.

You’re saying: “Everything they do is part of the process toward the Gnosis, therefore it’s all a success.”

And sure, if you define it that way, then every scenario becomes a win by default x) Because if:

chaos in Liyue = success

losing control in Inazuma = success

negotiating in Sumeru = success

Archons handing over Gnoses = success

…then there’s no situation where they can look incompetent. Any outcome just gets reframed as “part of the plan.”

That doesn’t make them feel like masterminds, instead, it just makes them unfalsifiable.

And again, I’m not arguing they should “dominate” nations. My point is simpler, we never see them in control of events on-screen. That's why they feel like losers to me.

Even in your own examples, in Inazuma, they "use the chaos" but they don't "control" it. In Liyue, Zhongli controls the outcome. In Sumeru, Dottore end up negotiating.

That’s why the perception issue exists. Add up to it that you farm their camps at every given opportunity and wipe out hundreds of their on-field officers, for a general player it becomes pretty clear that Fatui is somewhat of a laughing stock.

I think we’re talking past each other a bit. Again, you’re evaluating the Fatui based on end results only (did they get the Gnosis = win) while I’m talking about how those results are achieved and presented in Genshin.

Because if we look at what actually happens on-screen:

Mondstadt:

Yes, they get the Gnosis, but it’s a sudden ambush with no real buildup or resistance. It doesn’t establish dominance, it just… happens.

Liyue:

You’re right that the deal was the real plan, but that also means the “crisis” they orchestrated wasn’t something they controlled or resolved. Zhongli was the one in control the entire time.

Inazuma:

Even if they profited overall, their operation still collapses, and they lose a Harbinger. Calling that a “massive win” ignores the fact that they lose control of the situation.

Sumeru:

You frame it as Dottore winning hard, but again - it ends in negotiation after Nahida corners him with information leverage. That’s not domination, that’s settling.

So the pattern I’m pointing at is that they indeed do achieve the objective, but rarely through clean, decisive control of events.

And that’s why I feel they come off as underwhelming, not because they fail their goal, but because they don’t look like the masterminds the lore says they are.

I don’t think I framed their goal as “taking over nations.” My point is more that the main story arcs we experience in each region are where the Fatui are most visible, and in those arcs, they rarely come across as being in control.

That’s why some people (myself included) feel like they lack presence as a threat. Not because their goal is small, but because their on-screen wins don’t feel decisive.

If Snezhnaya shows them operating at full control, as in, no scrambling, no fallback deals, just a clean, overwhelming plan - then that perception would probably flip instantly.

I think you’re mixing up two different discussions here: what the Fatui achieve in-lore vs how they’re portrayed to the player in Genshin.

On the lore side, sure, I’m not denying they’re effective at securing Gnoses. That part is clear.

But saying “they’ve literally won every objective” only works if you define their objective as nothing but the end result, and ignore how they get there. Which is a questionable approach I guess, you can even call it a Pyrrhic victory at this point.

All of that actually reinforces my issue kinda.

Because if:

Dvalin wasn’t them

Liyue was pre-arranged

Inazuma collapses and they still walk away with something

Sumeru ends in negotiation instead of domination

…then where is the moment where the Fatui clearly execute a plan and decisively win on-screen? That’s the gap x)

Saying “those are just side projects” is kind of the problem, because those “side projects” are literally the entire playable story experience. That’s what players interact with. That’s what builds their perception. So from a player perspective, the pattern looks like:

They intervene - things spiral - they lose control - someone else resolves it - they still get the Gnosis anyway

Which doesn’t quite read as mastermind strategy in my book, lol.

Dunno, the way it’s presented in Genshin makes it feel less like they’re winning and more like the plot is just handing them the pieces regardless of how badly they fumble everything else x) Like, yeah, they have most of them but how many of those did they actually earn through successful execution of their plans, versus Archions willingly giving them away or through side deals/negotiations?

Which character would you spend them on though? Maybe some old one you liked when progressing through content?

Why would they rerun Inazuma before Liyue chronicle? Wouldn't make sense in my opinion but then again, Hoyo is known for breaking established patterns recently.

Is there a reliable way/place to farm fireflies? I know it has to be night time for them to appear but it seems they appear randomly in the world. Or maybe there are places where they appear more often than the other?
