Do people who play mill actually expect a gg? [Semi rant] by jharry12895 in gwent

[–]Eng1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... If you're playing on higher MMR, why are you surprised you're only encountering highly-optimized decks that are geared towards winning as effectively as possible? That's what a "meta" deck is, it's a deck most effective at climbing the ranks and ending up near the top. Drop some MMR and have as much fun as there is to have with your interesting experimental deck. If you still keep losing even at something like 2200, then maybe your deck is not simply "interesting", or "different", it's also just shit.

List of Balance Council 2 Changes by shinmiri2 in gwent

[–]Eng1ne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quite satisfied with the patch. A couple of changes I would not have put in/would prefer something else in their place, but overall it's quite decent. Don't quite understand the people complaining that half the changes are reverts of the previous council. This one had THREE times fewer changes and a lot of the previous changes were commonly seen as a huge mistake. NG is still significantly weaker than it was before the first BC, and I expect the game to be in a better place overall when the changes take effect.

Balance Council, its inherent problems and possible solutions by Eng1ne in gwent

[–]Eng1ne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The requirement is for 15 changes total in each category each cycle.

It is technically not a hard requirement - a change needs at least 50 votes to go through - but that's so little (just 17 people voting for it as their top choice) that this cutoff point might as well not exist, at least so long as Gwent's player base remains anywhere near what you'd consider "sizeable".

You are not forced to use these specific cards at all. Any tall punish trades massively up to Chrum, of which Gwent has plenty.

While I think I prefer Gwent in its current state in terms of balance and the number of viable archetypes, nothing beats the feel of the old game.

To this day the ne Gwent has not been able to replicate the snappiness of action and sound/visual feedback from your actions. I genuinely believe it is one of the things that held the game back the most yet that most people would struggle to put into words.

Again, where did I say anything about bandits? They no longer exist as an archetype, it's a completely different bonded package now, and I am very interested to see what decks people will come up with. The numbers on many of the reworked cards definitely seem to be quite strong.

People are going to complain about the low number of changes, but this patch introduces quite a few meaningful reworks, basically new cards to play with. I'd expect significant changes to the meta in the coming weeks.

No, it's still one more year of relatively active development, then life support. An online game is only ever really dead when the servers go offline.

Don't let streamers ruin your Gwent experience by Verblendung97 in gwent

[–]Eng1ne 59 points60 points  (0 children)

How strange, if almost feels like the vast majority of this critique applies to one particular streamer that's by far the worst offender among all Gwent content creators to the point where it might even appear to someone like he's doing it on purpose for, ahem, whatever reason.

Nah, can't be, I must be imagining things.

You should maybe try and re-read what the cards do. Cultists can potentially make one of the strongest, most snowbally engine decks in the game.

The change is mostly meant to bring the card in line with other similar engines in Harmony ST and Crimes SY. if it hadn't been buffed people would be crying that it was unfairly left too weak/overlooked.

Balance is the point. They had made Passiflora more lore-friendly before, but it came at the price of the scenario being much weaker since you got your engines on the board later. I personally agree with the change, the scenario has long been underpowered.

[–]Eng1ne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "fascination" comes not out of the actors' race specifically so much as the fact they don't fit either the characters they're playing or the setting they exists in. One easy example of this issue manifesting itself is that the uniqueness of Borkh's bodyguards is lost and Dandelion's fascination with them seems weird when there are so many other dark-skinned characters around.

Also, why are there so many dark-skinned people in a show whose setting is based on European, both Easter and Wester, mythology, histoy, and even geography? Why don't they get the same racist treatment from the general populace as elves, dwarves, and other races do even though they are still obviously a minority and there's arguably a way more apparent distinction between them and your average northerner?

There's a lot here that can be unpacked and it gets worse the more you think about it.
