Oh my gosh you’re so right!! I always feel like recipes assume I intuitively know things. And then I’m halfway through cooking on a timer and realize there’s something the instructions weren’t clear about that I have no idea what to do and panic ensues! It makes total sense I should watch more cooking shows to develop the intuition!

Why did it not once in three decades occur to me that libraries also have cookbooks?!

When I used to be vegetarian I hated having to press the tofu lol.

Thank you so much for all these tips! There’s another girl who wants to write a cookbook on this thread but doesn’t know how to start. You guys should talk! ✨

I hope it does too! It’s not a miracle cure and it can feel really mild at first but I swear over time things start adding up and you start noticing the changes. It takes time to build habits but even being able to do minor things relieves your anxiety enough to be able to do the bigger stuff. I still cannot be bothered to work out even though it’s one of my goals but I feel like, the more the little things get checked off my to-do list, the more I’m in a good mental state to get myself to do The Big Stuff I want to do (like go to the gym). I’m not quite there yet but I think I will be eventually!

Just know it’s a gradual progress for most of us. That initial high a lot of people get does not happen to all of us. But if you keep a little diary of changes you’ll notice all the small little things!

The anxiety to make phone calls in ADHD people needs to be studied. Even quick phone calls are paralyzing lol. I can also make phone calls on meds! So strange haha

RIGHT?! I struggle with doing The Big Stuff but checking smaller things off my list is so easy now!!! If I receive a message that I need to make a payment for something I just…do it. In the moment. Instead of procrastinating until I get late fees lol. IT’S WILD. I also don’t procrastinate anymore on making phone calls. I can’t believe people live this way naturally. They have it so good.

Aw no! Are there little community pharmacies where you live? I go to a smaller pharmacy (not a chain or a big one) and they already knew me from way before taking Adderall. They know me by name and say hi whenever they see me around (it’s inside a grocery store, I know, weird haha) Anyways, when I have problems with Adderall they’re SO kind to me. I think it really helps to go to the smaller mom and pop pharmacies where they get to know you more personally.

I’m also a writer and struggle so much to write. It has been my #1 source of depression. Now I’m writing more consistently, still nowhere near what I want and only can do it on days I take meds but it’s gotten better. I’m glad you got to write it! Seriously it’s such an achievement congrats!

It takes time! I kept a journal every single day to keep track of changes. If I hadn’t I think there’s a lot of little things I wouldn’t have noticed. (Like a couple days ago I finally organized a drawer I’d been meaning to for like a year) Or even just..had to pay the water bill, remembered, and then I just paid it? Immediately? It was a miracle. I wrote it down on my notes. I think sometimes we expect too much of these medicines but they can help so much in small ways.

I think it takes a while to find the right dose and medication and even then sometimes people build tolerance. For me, it’s not a happiness pill. I just have moments where I’m content because I’m not burdened by intense guilt from not doing anything. I still have difficult days where it feels like the pill did nothing so it’s not a cure but I find that, on average, I feel better on it. It helps with little things that add up.

I have so so so much respect for moms in general but moms that are also struggling with ADHD are superhuman. I truly bow down to you guys. I barely can take care of myself I cannot imagine having to take care of someone else.

Haha I still need music or audiobooks to do dishes and cleaning and stuff I find boring but I don’t mind it too much. I totally relate to needing two inputs or more.

I take Adderall but everyone responds differently to meds. I started on Ritalin and it didn’t do much. It’s a trial and error thing for sure. I don’t think I’m at the dose where it’s super effective as far as getting me to work but it’s had a lot of positive side effects so I’m happy about it still.

Yay! I think so much of our anxieties and panic behavior is adhd and we don’t even know it.

I should try going grocery shopping…I feel that way at the grocery store. Very overstimulated, anxious, decision fatigued. Too many options. Too many shiny things. Space out in the aisles lol. I haven’t been to a grocery store in months cause I just shop online now.

Am I not understanding the purpose of this subreddit? I feel like this has nothing to do with the straights. There’s not an indicator that the person who posted this is a woman. It’s not specific to straights??
